Create Construction Document from Service Item Worksheet
When an item is replaced or inserted into the Service BOM using the Service Item Worksheet, it is possible to create a Construction Inquiry from a Service Quote/Order or a Construction Order from a Service Order for the item if construction is necessary. After inserting or replacing the component (see Substitution of Service Item Components), choose Line > Construction Inquiry or Construction Order on the Lines FastTab of the Service Item Worksheet page. Choose the Yes button to create the Construction Inquiry/Order.
Existing Construction Inquiries/Orders can be opened using the same actions from the Service Item Worksheet line.
Create Construction Inquiry
The new Construction Inquiry is created for the item in the Service Item Worksheet with a Document Type of Inquiry Service Line. When created from the Service Item Worksheet, there is no link to the Document BOM so you need to use the Request BOM action to copy in the BOM and then you can begin working on design changes.
If the service quote is converted to a service order, the attached Construction Inquiry is available. Further changes can be made and/or a Construction Order can be created. During the creation process, you are given the option to copy over the Construction Inquiry lines. Choosing the No button will create the Construction Order without any lines. If the Construction Order is created without lines, you can copy them over at any time using the Copy Lines to Constr. Order action from the Construction Inquiry.
Once created, the Construction Order can be opened from the Construction Inquiry using the Construction Order action. Any changes made to the Construction Inquiry after the Construction Order is created can be copied over using the Copy Lines to Constr. Order action from the Construction Inquiry. Existing Construction Order lines will be replaced with the new Construction Inquiry lines.
Create Construction Order
If the component from the Service BOM was replaced in a Service Order, and the component has a BOM, the BOM will be copied within the new Construction Order. After all necessary updates are made to the Construction Order (see Construction Order), a Production Order can be created.
Changes that were made in the Construction BOM can be written back to the Service BOM by choosing the Transfer Back to Service BOM action on the Actions menu in the Construction Order page. All changes will be copied into the Service BOM so a record of the current configuration of the Service Item can be made.
Note
Only replaced components – not new components – can be transferred back to the Service BOM.
For example, if a new component is added in the Service Item Worksheet and a Construction Order is created, the new component cannot be transferred back to the Service BOM because it currently does not exist in the Service BOM. But if the component was replaced in the Service Item Worksheet and a Construction Order is created, the replaced component can be transferred back to the Service BOM because the existing Service BOM lines are deleted and replaced with the Construction BOM.
Additionally, values from a calculation can be transferred to the Service Item Worksheet line. For more information, see Transfer Construction Order Calculation Values to Service Item Worksheet.
Delete Service Line with Construction Documents
If a Service Item Worksheet line with a Construction Inquiry/Order is manually deleted, the Construction Inquiry/Order is decoupled and the related service quote/order information is transferred to the Deleted Document Type, Deleted Document No., and Deleted Line No. fields in the Construction Inquiry/Order header (see Construction Order, General FastTab).
