    Document Schedules with Base Calendars

Document Schedules can be calculated using a Base Calendar, which considers non-working days (e.g., weekends, public holidays, custom free days). If no Base Calendar is defined, scheduling continues to use all calendar days.

    Setup

This section describes the setup needed to use base calendars with document schedules.

    To Create a Base Calendar

    1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon, enter Base Calendars, and then choose the related link.
    2. Create a new calendar (e.g., Production Calendar 2025).
    3. Define non-working days such as weekends, holidays, or company-specific free days.

The usage of calendars can be tracked through the Where Used Base Calendar page by choosing Base Calendar > Where-Used List on the Related menu.

    Note

Changes to the Base Calendar automatically affect Document Schedule calculations.

Assign Base Calendar in Configure to Order Setup

    1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon, enter Configure to Order Setup, and then choose the related link.
    2. In the General FastTab, set the Document Schedule Base Calendar field to the base calendar that should be used for document scheduling.
    3. If the Document Schedule Base Calendar field is left blank, document scheduling uses calendar days.

Use Base Calendars in Document Schedules

    1. Open a document with scheduling functionality (e.g., Sales Order or Purchase Order line).

    2. On the Lines FastTab, choose Line > Document Schedule.

    3. Enter a Planned, Actual, or Expected:

      • Starting Date to automatically calculate the corresponding Ending Date.
      • Ending Date to automatically calculate the corresponding Starting Date.

The starting/ending dates are determined based on whether a base calendar is used:

      • With Base Calendar: Starting/Ending dates are calculated while skipping non-working days defined in the calendar.
      • Without Base Calendar: The calculation is done by simply adding/subtracting the duration in calendar days.

    Forward vs. Backward Scheduling

Document Schedules support both Forward and Backward scheduling:

    • Forward Scheduling

      • Enter a Starting Date.
      • The Ending Date is calculated based on the duration.
      • For durations greater than 0D, the entered start date is counted as Day 1.
      • If a Base Calendar is assigned, non-working days are skipped.
    • Backward Scheduling

      • Enter an Ending Date.
      • The Starting Date is calculated based on the duration.
      • For durations greater than 0D, the entered end date is used as the inclusive boundary for backward calculation.
      • If a Base Calendar is assigned, non-working days are skipped.

When dependent Document Schedule lines are recalculated, an adjacent-day boundary is also applied between linked operations.

    • In forward scheduling, dependent lines are moved so that the Expected Starting Date and Planned Starting Date are not earlier than the next available day after the referenced ending date.
    • In backward scheduling, dependent lines are moved so that the Planned Ending Date is not later than the previous available day before the referenced starting date.
    • When a step has a duration of zero, no buffer day is added and the next step can start on the same day as the referenced ending date.

    Example

This example shows how forward and backward scheduling with and without base calendars are used based on the following settings:

    • Duration: 7D
    • Start Date: 13-Feb-2025
    • Base Calendar non-working days: 15-Feb-2025, 16-Feb-2025, 17-Feb-2025

Forward calculation from Start Date 13-Feb-2025:

    • Without Base Calendar
      • Ending Date 19-Feb-2025
    • With Base Calendar
      • Ending Date 22-Feb-2025

Backward validation from calculated ending dates:

    • Without Base Calendar
      • Enter Ending Date 19-Feb-2025 = Starting Date 13-Feb-2025
    • With Base Calendar
      • Enter Ending Date 22-Feb-2025 = Starting Date 13-Feb-2025
