Component Usage Overview (Where-Used)
In COSMO Process Manufacturing, the component usage overview (Where-Used) provides a comprehensive view of where a component item is used across all relevant production structures, production BOMs, and variants. The search follows document networks across multiple levels (up to 30 levels deep) and suppresses duplicate entries automatically. This feature supports you in:
- Assessing the impact of a component change across all possible usages.
- Identifying all finished items and variants that use a specific component.
- Verifying that no usages are missed due to technical linkage (variants, SKUs, structures).
Information Displayed in the Overview
When you search for a component, the result is a list of:
- Items in which the component is used, identified through all possible technical linkages — including direct production BOM assignment on the item card, item variants and production BOM variants, SKU/warehouse data, and certified production structures (Laboratory or Manufacturing Structures)
- Stockkeeping Units in which the component is used
- Production BOMs that contain the component but are not directly assigned to an Item (though they may be assigned to a Stockkeeping Unit or referenced by another Production BOM structure)
- Production BOMs that contain the component but have no assignment to any Item, Stockkeeping Unit, or other Production BOM structure
Note
Development Structures are not included in the search. The search only covers the currently active Production BOM version; other BOM versions are not included.
For each result, the overview displays:
- The source document type and source number (Item, Production BOM, Laboratory Structure, Manufacturing Structure, or Stock Keeping Unit).
- The finished item or structure where the component is used.
- The variant code and location code (if applicable).
- The theoretical quantity of the component per unit of finished product, including any variant-specific deviations.
- Whether the result originates from a production variant.
If the component is used for all variants of a production item, this is clearly indicated; if it is used only for specific variants, the details are shown per variant.
If the component is not used in any production item or structure, the message No related records found. is displayed.
Component Usage Overview Page
You can open the overview using the standard or Process Manufacturing-specific Where-Used action from the following pages:
- Item card and list
- Production BOM
- Laboratory Structure card, list, and lines
- Manufacturing Structure card, list, and lines
- Stockkeeping Unit card and list
- Components Planning Pool
When you open the overview from any of these pages, the search is limited to the selected record. The page supports filtering and searching by production item, variant code, quantity range, and more.
Fields
The fields in the overview are described in the following table.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Source Document Type | Specifies the type of source document where the component is used: Item, Production BOM, Laboratory Structure, Manufacturing Structure, or Stock Keeping Unit. |
| Source No. | Specifies the number or identifier of the source document. |
| Variant Code | Specifies the variant code from the source document (if applicable). |
| Item No. | Specifies the finished item number. |
| Location Code | Specifies the storage location of the component (relevant for SKU-based results). |
| Production BOM No. | Specifies the production BOM number from the source document. |
| Production Structure No. | Specifies the production structure number from the source document. |
| Production Variant | Indicates whether the result originates from a production variant. |
| Description | Specifies the description of the finished item or structure. |
| Version Code | Specifies the version code of the production BOM (if applicable). |
| Quantity Needed | Specifies the theoretical quantity of the component per unit of finished product. |
| Level Code | Shows the level of the result in the BOM hierarchy. This field is hidden by default but can be shown via the Personalize function. |
Actions
From the overview, you can open the originating record directly using the actions described in the following table.
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Open Item | Opens the item card for the selected where-used line. Available when an item number is present. |
| Open Production BOM | Opens the production BOM card for the selected where-used line. Available when a production BOM number is present. |
| Open Production Structure | Opens the production structure card (Laboratory or Manufacturing Structure) for the selected where-used line. Available when a production structure number is present. |
| Open Stockkeeping Unit | Opens the stockkeeping unit card for the selected where-used line. Available when the source document type is Stock Keeping Unit and both a source number and location code are present. |
