Picking Tolerances
Tolerances are available for picking in two ways:
- Sales delivery tolerance for Warehouse and Inventory Picks
- Excess picking for production order consumption
Both picking tolerances are described in this section.
Sales Delivery Tolerance in Warehouse and Inventory Picks
Using sales delivery tolerances with Picks is like Sales Orders and Warehouse Shipments except for the following behaviors:
- The confirmation dialog for quantity changes is always executed, regardless if the Change Quantity field is set to Question in the Delivery Tolerances page. This is necessary to perform the split line function.
- If a split pick line is deleted, the original quantity is restored on the first remaining pick line.
The Quantity to Handle field on Pick lines can be increased or reduced but not exceed the tolerance.
The change on the Pick line is transferred to the Shipment line and originating Sales line.
Pick Line Split Tolerance Check
If a split Pick line is deleted, the original quantity is restored on the first remaining Pick line.
Example
For example, a Pick line with a quantity of 100 is split into two equal quantity lines of 50. If the second line is increased to 60, a tolerance message opens asking to increase the quantity. Note that if the Qty. to Handle field had been set to 65, an error message would have opened stating the exceeded quantity and the prevented change.
The change on the Pick line is transferred to the Shipment line and originating Sales line.
When one of the split Pick lines is deleted, the original quantity of 110 is set on the remaining Pick line and the Qty. to Handle field is unchanged.
Allow Excess Picking for Production Order Consumption
Pick quantities can exceed the needed quantities for production order consumption in order to put bulk items in manufacturing locations. This excess quantity is only used for the warehouse movement, not for consumption.
To use this functionality, turn on the Excess Pick for Consumption toggle on the General FastTab in the Warehouse Setup page.
Once the toggle is turned on, a higher quantity value can be entered in the Qty. to Handle field in a pick worksheet than specified by the quantity of the respective Sales or Production Order. Thus, it is possible to take a higher quantity from the inventory than necessary for the order.
However, the withdrawn excess quantity is not allocated to the specific order but remains in the specified picking location as available inventory. Therefore, the original order is not changed.
