BOM Change Log

The BOM Change Log lists changes made to production BOMs or master BOMs based on the setting in the Production BOM Log and/or Master BOM Log fields in the Configure to Order Setup page.

Log Tracking Options

The logging behavior depends on the selected field option in the Configure to Order Setup page:

  • Status Change – Creates certification snapshots. Every time a BOM is set to Certified, a new log line with Status = Open is created. When the BOM is changed back to Under Development, this line does not switch to In Progress. On the next certification, another new Open line is added. Status Change focuses on certification events.
  • Version Code – Creates one ongoing log entry per version. The entry's status changes as the version evolves: Open ↔ In Progress → Finished.
  • BOM Number – Creates one ongoing entry per BOM number. The entry's status mirrors the current source state. The BOM Source Version Code field shows the latest changed version.

Status Mapping

The log entry status reflects the BOM source status:

  • Certified → Open
  • Closed → Finished
  • Non-certified (e.g., Under Development, New) → In Progress

Status Transitions:

  • Ongoing entries switch to In Progress during development and back to Open upon certification. A new Open line is created only when the previous entry is Finished.
  • For log type Status Change, development phases do not flip the snapshot to In Progress; certification updates or creates the Open snapshot based on recency.

Tip

Use BOM Number or Version Code when you want a continuous lifecycle per BOM/version. When a BOM is set to Closed, the ongoing entry becomes Finished. A subsequent certification starts again with an Open entry (a new line if the previous one is Finished).

Open Source Documents

The source documents that created the log entries can be opened from the following fields:

  • BOM Source No. – Production BOM / Master BOM
  • BOM Source Version Code – Production BOM Version / Master BOM Version
  • Document BOMs – Document BOMs where the BOM is used from a previous state or where one or more lines contain such BOM reference

The source documents can also be opened from the actions on the Related menu.

BOM Change Cues in Role Center

In the Configure to Order Design Engineer Role Center, the Activities part includes three BOM Changes cues that provide visibility into BOM/Routing changes:

  • BOM Changes - Open – Shows the number of BOM Change Log entries with Status = Open and provides quick access to the BOM Change Log page.
  • BOM Changes - Construction Orders – Shows the number of construction orders with available BOM/Routing updates (BOM/Routing updates available field = true).
  • BOM Changes - Document BOMs – Shows the number of document BOM headers with available BOM/Routing updates (BOM/Routing updates available field = true).

These cues provide a visual count of pending BOM/Routing-related updates.

Tip

The BOM Changes - Open cue uses a fixed Status = Open filter. Including the In Progress status requires customization of the cue calculation.

Changing Status

To change the status of the log entries, select the entry or entries and then choose the Finish action. Alternatively, you can manually change the Status field on individual lines. The Status will change to Finished and the entry/entries will be removed from the cue.
