Production Quantity

For make-to-order items, you can enter a Production Quantity on the sales line that is higher than the sold Quantity. The higher quantity is used for planning and production so that expected production yield loss is covered, while the customer only sees the original ordered quantity on the order confirmation, shipment, and invoice. You can access the Production Quantity field on the Sales Order, Sales Quote, and Blanket Sales Order lines, on the Requisition Worksheet and Planning Worksheet, and on Planned, Firm Planned, and Released Production Orders; it is shown by default only on the Blanket Sales Order lines, and hidden by default elsewhere, where it can be shown with the Personalize feature.

Validation and Scrap Calculation

The Production Quantity field is only available for sales lines of Type = Item where the item's Replenishment System is Prod. Order and its Reordering Policy is Lot-for-Lot or Order. The value must be 0 (not used) or greater than or equal to the line Quantity.

When a value is entered, it is carried forward through planning and production as follows:

  1. The Production Quantity is copied from the sales line to the inventory profile created for the demand.
  2. When the planning run creates a requisition line for the demand, the Production Quantity is copied from the inventory profile to the Production Quantity field on the requisition line.
  3. When a production order is created from the sales line, requisition line, or planning worksheet, the Production Quantity is copied to the Production Quantity field on the production order header.
  4. On the first production order line (Planning Level Code = 0), the Scrap % field is set based on the production order header's Production Quantity, using the formula (Production Quantity - Quantity) / Quantity x 100. The Scrap % is only set this way when the Production Quantity is greater than or equal to the production order Quantity.

Because the Scrap % is adjusted on the production order line instead of the production order Quantity, the planned or produced output quantity remains equal to the demand quantity, while component demand is raised by the scrap percentage. Consumption posting behavior for manual and backward flushing is not affected.

Note

The Production Quantity is not written back to the sales line after a supply order exists. Changing the value on the sales line after a requisition line or production order was created does not update the existing requisition line or production order.
