Copy Service BOM

The Copy BOM action copies a processed BOM into the Service BOM structure in the following order:

  • If the Prod. Order No. field is populated on the Service Item Card, this BOM is suggested first.
  • If the Prod. Order No. field is empty, but the Construction Order No. field is populated, then this BOM is suggested.
  • If the Prod. Order No. and Construction Order No. fields are empty, but the Document BOM No. field is populated, then this BOM is suggested.

It is also possible to copy from other service BOMs, construction orders, document BOMs, production orders, and their archived versions. For more information, see Copying from Archived Documents.

You can set the following filters so that only the selected types will be copied:

  • Copy Routings - copies lines with Type = Work Center or Machine Center.
  • Copy Resources - copies lines with Type = Resource.
  • Copy G/L Accounts - copies lines with Type = Account(G/L).
  • Copy Spare/Wear Parts only - copies only components where the Item is marked as Spare Part or Wear Part (on the Config. to Order FastTab). No BOM structure will be copied, all lines will get level 1. When copying from a Production Order, the setup from the Item Card is used.
Note

When copying from a production order, the Copy Resources and Copy G/L Accounts toggles cannot be turned on.

Copying from Specific Lines (Subtrees)

The Document Line No. field on the Copy Service BOM request page allows you to copy a subtree from a specific line within the source document instead of copying the entire structure:

  • For Document Type = Document BOM, Construction Order, and Service BOM, the Document Line No. field refers to the Entry No. of the source line.
  • For Document Type = Production Order, the Document Line No. field refers to the Line No. of the production order line.
  • For Document Type = Document BOM Archive, Construction Order Archive, and Service BOM Archive, the Document Line No. field refers to the Entry No. of the archived BOM line.
  • If the Document Line No. field is empty, the copy operation starts from the source document header and copies the complete BOM structure.

To select a specific source line, use the lookup in the Document Line No. field. The lookup displays the lines from the selected source document.

Copy Target Location

The copy target depends on where the Copy BOM action is started:

  • When started from the Functions menu on a Service BOM line, the selected line becomes the copy target. The copied structure replaces any child lines under the selected line.
  • When started from the Service BOM header action bar, the Service BOM itself is the copy target.

Validation and Confirmation

Before copying, the following validations are performed and confirmations are asked:

  • If the target location already has child lines (for line-level copy) or existing lines (for header-level copy), you are asked whether these lines should be deleted. If you choose not to delete them, the copy operation is canceled.
  • If the item number in the source document differs from the item number in the target (either the Service BOM header item or the selected line item), you are asked whether to continue with the copy operation. If you choose not to continue, the copy operation is canceled.

Serial Number Handling

When a production order is copied to a service BOM and production order components use serial numbers, a dialog box opens for you to choose the serial numbers that are used in the current service item. Additionally, a service BOM line is created for each serial number and populates the Serial No. field accordingly.

Copying from Archived Documents

You can copy from archived versions of documents either through direct selection or automatic fallback when original documents have been deleted.

Direct Selection from Archives

You can select one of the following archive document types to copy from a specific archived version:

  • Document BOM Archive - copies from an archived document BOM
  • Construction Order Archive - copies from an archived construction order
  • Service BOM Archive - copies from an archived service BOM

When you select an archive document type, the Document Version field displays the version number of the selected archived document. This allows you to copy from any archived version, even if the original source document still exists.

Automatic Fallback for Deleted Documents

When you select Document Type = Construction Order or Document BOM, but the selected documents only exist as archived versions (the documents have been archived and then deleted), the last archived version is copied automatically to the Service BOM.

The deleted documents are not displayed in the list when you use the lookup from the Document No. field in the Copy Service BOM request page. If the Document Line No. field is empty, the latest archived version is copied automatically. You can view the source documents used in the Detail FastTab on the Service BOM.
