Construction-to-Production Workflows
The Repair Order functionality in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing enables the seamless transition from a Construction Order to a Production Order. This is essential for executing repair tasks in a structured and traceable manner, using the manufacturing logic of Business Central.
During this transition, all relevant Construction Lines – specifically components and resources – are transferred to the Production Order:
- Components are added to the Production Order Components.
- Resources can be transformed into Routing Lines, depending on their configuration.
Conversion of Resources to Routing Lines
When a Construction Line contains a Type = Resource, the system supports three controlled scenarios for handling execution and cost flow. These are defined via the Service Repair Prod. Order Type on the Resource Card:
Service
- The Resource remains in the Service Line.
- All cost and sales values are handled entirely through the Service Order.
- No Routing Line is created; production execution is not involved.
Production
- The Resource is removed from the Service Line and inserted into the Production Routing.
- A Routing Line is created using the Work Center defined in the Construction Line.
- Cost accumulation is managed via standard Work Center logic (e.g., time-based Unit Cost, capacity usage).
- No sales price remains in the Service Line – billing is based solely on the finished repair item.
Service Price + Production Costs
- The Resource is handled in both layers:
- A Service Line is retained to show the sales price to the customer.
- A Routing Line is created to capture actual production costs.
- This hybrid model enables clear financial separation: revenue stays visible in the Service Order, while effort and execution costs are handled in production.
- The Resource is handled in both layers:
Note
The choice of conversion mode enables flexible cost and revenue handling – particularly for complex repairs involving both service and manufacturing processes.
Work Center Assignment
Each Construction Line that uses the Production or Service Price + Production Costs mode must define a Work Center No.. This determines:
- Where the Resource is mapped in the Routing.
- How time or quantity is interpreted (based on the Work Center's setup).
- How production costs are calculated (from Work Center cost structure).
This mapping enables consistency between the original planning (in the Construction Order) and the actual execution (in the Production Order).
Note
The Work Center acts as the execution anchor for labor-based Construction Lines during the repair process. It ensures that internal effort is properly costed and traceable within the Production Order.
The Construction-to-Production workflow ensures that repair activities – especially material usage and manual work – are transferred from planning to execution in a controlled manner.
By supporting flexible handling of resources and assigning them to Work Centers, COSMO Discrete Manufacturing enables accurate cost capture, transparent billing, and consistent routing generation.
