Shop Calendar Shift Settings
The Shop Calendar in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central manages two settings for resource scheduling: shift schedules and shifts that start on one day and end on another. These settings are described in this topic.
A shift is not necessarily a 24-hour period of time. In this example, it is one of three eight-hour periods within a day, divided as morning, day, and night. Shift schedules calculate and define the alternating shifts in a production environment. In other words, the scheduled change of a resource from one shift to another at a specified interval. This rotating 8-hour shift interval is then repeated within the calculation period.
Shift schedules are assigned to the Shop Calendars and used in the Create Work Center function for proper capacity setup. Use Tell Me to access the shift schedules for setup. Choose the icon, enter Shop Calendars, and then choose the related link. On the Related menu, choose Shop Cal. > Shift Schedules.
The fields in the Shop Calendar Shift Schedules page are described in the following table.
|Code||Unique identifier of the shift schedule.|
|Description||Brief description of the shift schedule.|
|Entry No.||Sequential number that determines the sequence of a week for the repetition.
- If only one number is assigned, the shift schedule is repeated week after week, unchanged, when the calendar items are calculated.
- If multiple numbers are assigned, the shift schedule changes each week, and then starts over again after the last entry.
|Monday .. Sunday||Specifies the shift in which the resource is to be dispatched. When calculating the capacity, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central enters a corresponding start and end time and capacity in the calendar items.|
The Copy From function in the Weeks section will copy all entries from one line in the same shift schedule to the current line. Existing entries will be deleted.
Establish Continuation of Shift on Day Change
To ensure that the change of day at midnight can be calculated within a shift, you must specify whether the relevant period after midnight is to be assigned to the shift started on the previous day. This setting is completed using the Continuation field in the Shop Calendar Working Days page.
Selecting the Continuation check box on a line indicates that the period after the change of day belongs to the previous day within a shift code.
