    Setup

    To use the returnable containers function, an existing base item, customer, and location must be configured.

    Items

    On the Warehouse FastTab, turn on the Returnable Container toggle to designate an item as a returnable container.

    For items that need returnable containers, the information is captured in the Item Returnable Containers page, accessed from the Item Card by choosing Sales > Returnable Containers on the Related menu.

    In the Item Returnable Containers page, the items that have been designated as returnable containers are entered and the Quantity (Container) is linked to the quantity of the item.

    Customers and Locations

    Customer Locations are created and assigned to the customer in order to transfer returnable containers using the Item Reclassification Journal instead of creating an item ledger entry by posting a sales shipment. During delivery, the customer location for the returnable container is booked as a transfer location and records which customer received which returnable container.

    Location Card and Bins

    On the Location Card, turn on the Customer Location toggle to designate a location as a customer location. Only locations with this designation can be selected on the Customer Card. In addition, we recommend that you add a bin to the location for each customer receiving returnable containers. Then this location can be used for all returnable container postings to customers. Therefore, a customer's individual inventory is listed in a customer-specific bin.

    On the Shipping FastTab of the Customer Card, fill in the Returnable Cont. Location Code and Returnable Cont. Bin Code fields if applicable to the customer.
