    Trading Units

Different storage units can be tracked in COSMO Process Manufacturing using a trading unit. On the Item Card, trading units are defined as either Item or Variant on the Item Tracking FastTab.

Select the relevant option in the Trading Unit per Item UOM field as follows:

    • <Blank> – for standard items
    • Item – to use the item concept where a new item is created from the base item
    • Variant – to use the variant concept where a new variant is created for the base item

Both concepts automatically create items or variants from the item; thus, eliminating the need to manually create new records.

    Trading Unit – Variants

The concept of the Variants Trading Unit is based on the standard item unit of measure. When a new item unit of measure is created, a new variant is created in the Item Variants page.

The Item Availability by Variant page has been enhanced to accommodate this functionality. In the standard page, all values are displayed in the base unit of measure.

On the Options FastTab, the Quantity field can be changed to view the trading unit quantity per unit of measure. The Quantity per Unit of Measure option displays the number of trading units of measure for each unit of measure/variant.

Since a variant is created for each item unit of measure, the item variant represents exactly one item unit of measure. When posting to inventory, these values must be equal or an error message opens.

    Trading Unit – Items

Item Trading Units require more settings than variants. In the Units of Measure page, one item extension must be entered for each unit of measure.

When a new item unit of measure is added to an item that has the Item trading unit selected, a new item is created automatically and is linked to the base item. The entry made in the Item Extension field of the corresponding unit of measure is added to the end of the new item number.

    Note

Use the Personalize function to add the Item Extension field.

    Base Trading Unit Item Sorting

In the Items page, the Base Trading Unit Item field provides an overview of the item trading unit structure.

Choose the Base Trading Unit Item field name to re-sort the Items page and in the Description field, indent the sub-items below the base item.

    Note

Use the Personalize function to add the Base Trading Unit Item field.

    Trading Unit – Item Adjustments

To simplify the maintenance of the data that is copied to the new sub-item that is created for each item unit of measure of a base item, use the Trading Unit Item Adjustment page to define the fields that should be copied for all sub-items during changes in the base item.

The Trading Unit Item Adjustment page is accessed using Tell Me. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon, enter Trading Unit Item Adjustment, and then choose the related link.

When creating a sub-item, the quantity per unit of measure related to the base item can be taken into consideration by selecting the Consider Quantity checkbox. For example, a sub-item is created for a pallet (1 pallet = 10 pieces). If the unit price is 7 EUR for one piece, then the unit price of the sub-item for pallets is 70 because the unit price from the base unit was multiplied by 10.

Select the Skip checkbox on any fields that should not be copied to the sub-item.

Trading Unit – Sales Order Entry

During sales order entry, the configuration of the different trading units is possible using the units of measure:

    • Variants – the variant code on the line is updated automatically to match the selection in the Unit of Measure Code field.
    • Items – the base item can be entered on the line and then adjusted automatically by changing the unit of measure.

Trading Unit – Item Journal Entry

The Item Journal offers the same trading unit configuration as the sales order.

    Trading Unit - Requisition Worksheet

In requisition lines for items with the Trading Unit per Item UOM field set to Variant, the variant code and the unit of measure code must be the same. The unit of measure code in requisition lines for the items created by the Calculate Plan function or Special Orders are then aligned to the variant code.
