Synchronize Attributes and Manufacturing Dimensions
Manufacturing Dimensions in COSMO Process Manufacturing which are linked to Items and Item Variants can be synchronized with the Variable/Attribute Types in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing. When a production order is created from a sales line, the attributes are transferred to the Manufacturing Dimensions in the production order.
Note
Ensure that both Process Manufacturing and Planning Extension are enabled in the Product Configuration. For more information, see Product Configuration Management Tool.
Setup
In the Variable/Attributes Types page, there are four fields for manufacturing dimensions in the lines:
The Manufacturing Dimension Code field indicates the linked code to the attribute. This field can be populated manually or automatically using the Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's action on the Actions menu.
The Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active checkbox determines if the manufacturing dimension and attribute should be synchronized. If this checkbox is selected after linking, then changes to the attribute are made automatically to the manufacturing dimension, and vice versa.
Note
Selecting this checkbox does not perform a mass update. Existing data must be synchronized by using the Sync. Master Data action on the Actions menu of the Variable/Attributes Types page.
The Used in Attributes field indicates the number of times the attributes are used in the Attribute Values. Choose the value in the field to open the Attribute Values page to view all attributes and related values.
The Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field indicates the number of times the manufacturing dimensions are used in the Default Manufacturing Dimensions. Choose the value in the field to open the Default Mfg. Dimensions page to view all dimensions and related values.
On the Actions menu, choose the Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's action to link all attributes with the corresponding manufacturing dimensions if the codes are the same. When this function is run, a message opens asking to confirm that the Manufacturing Dimension Code should be filled automatically. A message then opens after the process finishes with the number of records that were synchronized.
Running the Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's function creates a link between attributes and manufacturing dimensions. The Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field is updated with all instances the manufacturing dimension code is used. Choosing the value in the Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field opens the Default Mfg. Dimensions page. Use the Personalize function to show the No. field, which indicates the item that is assigned to the dimension.
To ensure that the attributes and manufacturing dimensions remain synchronized, the Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active checkbox is selected for each line.
On the Actions menu, choose the Sync. Master Data action to synchronize the Attributes with the Manufacturing Dimensions, or vice versa, for all Items and Item Variants. A dialog box opens asking to synchronize from "Attribute" to "Default Mfg. Dimension" or from "Default Mfg. Dimension" to "Attribute".
The selection to choose depends on where more information exists. For example, if attributes have been set up on most items, and manufacturing dimensions are new, then use the from "Attribute" to "Default Mfg. Dimension".
Another dialog box opens to confirm the synchronization, which will overwrite any manual changes. After the process finishes, the Used in Attributes field is updated with the same number as in the Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field. Choosing the value in the Used in Attributes field opens the Attribute Values page. Use the Personalize function to show the No. field, which indicates the item that is assigned to the attribute.
By running the Sync. Master Data function, any items/item variants with certain manufacturing dimensions now have an attribute with the same value.
Items/item variants that do not have existing attributes or manufacturing dimensions when the Sync. Master Data function is run are handled manually in the Item Card or Item Variants page. In either case, the synchronized attributes and manufacturing dimensions can be adjusted per item/item variant.
Items and Item Variants
Once the attributes and manufacturing dimensions are linked, values can be added or modified in the Attributes or Manufacturing Dimensions on the Item Card or Item Variants page. In the Item Card, choose the Related menu and then one of the following:
- On the Item menu, choose the Attributes (DM) action to open the Attribute Values page.
- On the Bill of Materials menu, choose Production > Manufacturing Dimensions to open the Default Mfg. Dimensions page.
When the linked attributes/manufacturing dimensions that are set for synchronization are added, modified or deleted in either the Attribute Values page or Default Mfg. Dimensions page, the other will be updated accordingly.
Attributes and Manufacturing Dimensions that are not synchronized can be added to either page and will not be displayed in the other.
In the Item Variants page, both Attributes and Manufacturing Dimensions are accessible on the Related menu. The same process described for Items is used for Item Variants.
Transfer to Sales and Production
As in standard COSMO Discrete Manufacturing, when an item/item variant with attributes is added to a sales line, the attributes are accessible from the Lines FastTab by choosing Line > Attributes (DM).
After the Document BOM or Construction Order is created, and from those a production order is created, the attributes are passed from the sales line to the production order line as manufacturing dimensions. Any other assigned manufacturing dimensions that were not synchronized with the attributes are included in the production order line as well.
Any changes that are made to the linked attributes in the sales line before the production order is created will be transferred to the manufacturing dimensions in the production order line.
