Shipping Units

Shipping unit is an element inserted by Cosmo logistics, it extends the goods issue process. During picking, shipping units are assigned to the warehouse activities. These shipping units represent a packaging item (e.g. pallet, package, etc.) and the goods assigned to the packaging item. The corresponding data is generated during the picking process.

Prerequisites

Location card

  • GLN number is generated according to GLN Base No. + GLN Privat Generation + GLN Check Digit

  • GLN Base No. is between 7-10 character

  • GLN Privat Generation is between 2-5 character

  • GLN Check Digit is 1 character

  • GLN has to be 13 characters.

SSCC Generation

  • SSCC Reserve Digit is 1 character

  • GLN Base No. is between 7-10 character

  • Shipping Unit Nos. is between 6-9 character

  • Calculated Check Digit is 1 character

  • SSCC has to be 18 characters.

The shipping unit number (SSCC) is based on the GS1-128 standard (formerly "EAN128") and is a communication protocol in logistics. The SSCC represents a shipping unit and is unique worldwide. A Global Location Number (GLN) is required to generate it. It contains the complete company name and address. The GLN has 13 positions and is composed as follows:

  • GLN type - Indicates the GLN type. The options are:
    • Empty
    • 1 - GLN type 1 is awarded to companies without further locations. This means that you only get a unique location number.
    • 2 - GLN type 2 contains additional location numbers so that other parts of the company can be clearly integrated.
  • GLN Base No. - Indicates the basic number of the SSCC.
  • GLN Privat Generation - Specifies the specially generated positions in the GLN.
  • GLN Check Digit - Specifies the check digit at the end of the GLN.
  • GLN - Specifies the representation of the SSCC derived from the GLN base number, GLN Privat Generation, and GLN check digit.
  • Shipping Unit Nos. - The number series for the variable part of the SSCC is specified here, so that the system knows in which number range it is allowed to generate SSCC.
  • Shipping Unit Mandatory - If the check box is activated, an SSCC is required for picking.
