    Interpret Determined Value

In the Value Recording process, the interpretation of the Determined Value can be managed in two ways. The most critical aspect for interpretation is the Expected Value in combination with Upper Limit and/or Lower Limit. If Expected Value is between these limits, but not relevant to accept Determined Value as valid, then the Use Without Expected Value feature has to be activated. If not activated, the Expected Value will be interpreted as a limit itself.

In the Quality Assurance Setup page, turning on the Use Without Expected Value toggle calculates the Valid Determined Value field in the Value Recording process based on the Upper Limit and/or Lower Limit fields and therefore, the value in the Expected Value field is not considered.

The following table shows how COSMO Quality Assurance decides if the Determined Value is valid based on empty Upper/Lower Limits.

Use Without Expected Value Example Settings Results
    No Lower Limit = 5
    Upper Limit = ''
    Expected Value = 1
Upper Limit is replaced with the Expected Value; then a range from 5 to 10 is created to decide if the Determined Value is valid.
    Lower Limit = ''
    Upper Limit = 20
    Expected Value = 12
Lower Limit is replaced with the Expected Value; then a range from 12 to 20 is created to decide if the Determined Value is valid.
    Yes Lower Limit = 5
    Upper Limit = ''
    Expected Value = 10
Lower Limit is used and the Expected Value is ignored; then a range from 5 (5..) is created to decide if the Determined Value is valid.
    Lower Limit = ''
    Upper Limit = 20
    Expected Value = 12
Upper Limit is used and the Expected Value is ignored; then a range to 20 (..20) is created to decide if the Determined Value is valid.
    Note

If an open Upper/Lower Limit range is used and Use Without Expected Value = Yes, negative Determined Values are also valid.
