    Resource Needs in Production

In standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the production order capacity needs are calculated for each operation based on the shop calendar specified in the work center group, which takes into consideration workdays and public holidays. Therefore, if an operation is scheduled over several days, a line is created in the production order capacity need for each workday and work type (Setup or Run).

Similar to the production order capacity need, the production order capacity resource need is calculated for resource scheduling. Each time a production order is calculated, the resource needs are calculated.

The capacity and resource needs for production orders are visible in two pages, accessed from the Prod. Order Routing line. Both are described in this section.

    Production Order Capacity Resource Needs

The production order capacity resource needs are accessible from the Prod. Order Routing line. On the Related menu, choose Line > Skill Sets and then on the Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets page, choose the Cap. Resource Need action.

This page is generally the same as the Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets page in that it has FactBoxes relating to the routing line and production order line, and many of the same fields. The fields in this page are described in the following table.

    Field Description
Status Indicates the status of the production order to which the routing has the resource needs.
Prod. Order No. Indicates the number of the production order to which the routing has the resource needs.
Operation No. Indicates which operation in the Prod. Order Routing that has the specified resource needs.
Capacity Need Line No. Indicates the line number of a data record in the Production Order Capacity Need table.
The resource need is calculated from the Production Order Capacity Need from standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. In particular, the Time Type, Date, Start and End time are derived from the Production Order Capacity Need table. However, several resource needs can be derived from one Production Order capacity.
Skill Set Code Defaults from the Prod. Order Routing Skill Set line.
Resource Counter Indicates how many resources are needed in the specified time period that meet the requirements of the Skill Set code.
Description Defaults from the Prod. Order Routing Skill Set line.
Attention % Defaults from the Prod. Order Routing Skill Set line.
Date Indicates on which day the resources are needed.
Starting Time Indicates the time from which the resources are needed on the date.
Ending Time Indicates the time at which the resource is no longer needed for the task on the date.
Time Type Defaults from the Prod. Order Routing Skill Set line.

For detailed descriptions of the fields in the Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets page, see Production Orders Routings.

Automatic or manual scheduling of resources can be done on this page. For more information about these processes, see Allocate Resources to Prod. Order Operations.

    Note

Wait times and move times are not included in resource scheduling.

    Production Order Routing Resource Needs

The resources assigned to a production order and their respective times for the execution of the activities are accessible from the Prod. Order Routing line. On the Related menu, choose the Skill Sets action and then on the Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets page, choose the Resources action.

Additionally, the manual allocation of resources is done in this page. For more information about this process, see Manual Resource Allocation.
