    Document Schedules with Base Calendars

Document Schedules can be calculated using a Base Calendar, which considers non-working days (e.g., weekends, public holidays, custom free days). If no Base Calendar is defined, scheduling continues to use all calendar days.

    Setup

This section describes the setup needed to use base calendars with document schedules.

    To Create a Base Calendar

    1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon, enter Base Calendars, and then choose the related link.
    2. Create a new calendar (e.g., Production Calendar 2025).
    3. Define non-working days such as weekends, holidays, or company-specific free days.

The usage of calendars can be tracked through the Where Used Base Calendar page by choosing Base Calendar > Where-Used List on the Related menu.

    Note

Changes to the Base Calendar automatically affect Document Schedule calculations.

Assign Base Calendar in Configure to Order Setup

    1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon, enter Configure to Order Setup, and then choose the related link.
    2. In the General FastTab, turn on the Document Schedule Base Calendar toggle.
    3. Assign the previously created Base Calendar.
    Note

If this field is left blank, the system will schedule with all calendar days as before (simple date addition or subtraction).

Use Base Calendars in Document Schedules

    1. Open a document with scheduling functionality (e.g., Sales Order or Purchase Order line).

    2. On the Lines FastTab, choose Line > Document Schedule.

    3. Enter a Planned, Actual, or Expected:

      • Starting Date to automatically calculate the corresponding Ending Date.
      • Ending Date to automatically calculate the corresponding Starting Date.

The starting/ending dates are determined based on whether a base calendar is used:

      • With Base Calendar: Starting/Ending dates are calculated while skipping non-working days defined in the calendar.
      • Without Base Calendar: The calculation is done by simply adding/subtracting the duration in calendar days.

    Forward vs. Backward Scheduling

Document Schedules support both Forward and Backward scheduling:

    • Forward Scheduling
      • You enter a Starting Date.
      • The system calculates the Ending Date by adding the duration.
      • If a Base Calendar is assigned, non-working days are skipped.
      • Example: Starting Date 13-Feb-2025 + 1 week =
        • Without Base Calendar: 20-Feb-2025
        • With Base Calendar (including 15–17 February as free days): 25-Feb-2025
    • Backward Scheduling
      • You enter an Ending Date.
      • The system calculates the Starting Date by subtracting the duration.
      • If a Base Calendar is assigned, the calculation also respects non-working days.
      • Example: Ending Date 20-Feb-2025 – 1 week =
        • Without Base Calendar: 13-Feb-2025
        • With Base Calendar (including free days): Start date shifts further back to skip non-working days.

    Example

This example shows how forward and backward scheduling with and without base calendars are used based on the following settings:

    • Base Calendar: weekends + February 15–17 marked as non-working days (5 days)
    • Scheduling duration: 1 week (7 days).
    • Scheduling Starting/Ending Dates: 13-Feb-2025 / 20-Feb-2025

    Forward Scheduling

    • Starting Date: 13-Feb-2025
    • Ending Date:
      • Without Base Calendar: 20-Feb-2025, calculated forward 7 days
      • With Base Calendar: 25-Feb-2025, calculated forward 12 days (skips 5 non-working days: February 15–17, February 22–23)

    Backward Scheduling

    • Ending Date: 20-Feb-2025
    • Starting Date:
      • Without Base Calendar: 13-Feb-2025, calculated backwards 7 days
      • With Base Calendar: 10-Feb-2025, calculated backwards 10 days (skips 3 non-working days: February 15–17)
