Master BOMs
In COSMO Discrete Manufacturing, item BOMs are referred to as Master BOMs. Master BOMs are templates for order-related BOMs.
When creating a sales document, the Master BOM can be copied to the sales lines. At this point, it is referred to as the Document BOM, where the Master BOM is not referenced but rather the copied BOM. Together with the checklists, the Master BOMs form the configuration feature in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing. However, the Master BOMs can also be used without the configuration feature.

Recommendation for Use of Master BOMs in Order-Specific Manufacturing
In scenarios where manufacturing is driven by customer-specific requirements (order-specific manufacturing), standard Production BOMs should not be used. Instead, we recommend using Master BOMs.
Master BOMs provide several advantages for order-based production processes:
- Clear separation from standard BOMs.
- Multiple Master BOMs per item, allowing for flexible variants.
- Integration of configuration and attributes, enabling customized product structures.
- Seamless interaction with construction orders and configuration logic in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing.
By using Master BOMs in these cases, customers can ensure structured, consistent handling of configured products and benefit from the full feature set of COSMO Discrete Manufacturing.
