Reservations
Reservation management ensures that the correct physical item (e.g., the returned defective component) is used throughout the entire repair process – from return to production execution.
Reservation Workflow
The reservation workflow is described in the following sections.
Reservation on Return Line
When the Sales Return Order is created from the Service Item Worksheet:
- The returned item (e.g., a serialized machine or component) is automatically reserved.
- The reservation connects:
- The Sales Return Line (physical return)
- The Service Line (planned repair task)
This ensures that the system tracks exactly which item is being returned by the customer.
Transfer to Construction Order
Once the Service Line is converted to a Construction Order:
- The reservation is moved from the Service Line to the corresponding Construction Line.
- This preserves the reference to the returned physical item.
Transfer to Production Order
When the Production Order is created from the Construction Order:
- The reservation is moved again – now to the Production Order Line.
- This ensures that the correct returned item is consumed during production.
Usage During Production Posting
The reservation guarantees that:
- Only the correct item is consumed in the production process.
- Serial/Lot numbers are preserved and consistent.
- No other similar stock items can accidentally be used.
Summary of Reservation Flow
The reservation flow is summarized as follows:
- Return Sales Line
- Service Line → create Construction Order
- Construction Line → create Production Order
- Production Order Line
- Construction Line → create Production Order
- Service Line → create Construction Order
Important
The reservation is not duplicated or recreated – it is transferred between objects. This preserves the original reference and ensures end-to-end traceability of the returned item.
