Subcontracting with Supply of Material (Enclosures)

Assembly subcontracting can be mapped with supply of material (enclosures). In this case, the items provided are predefined in the Assembly BOM. However, these settings can be changed during order handling.

Assembly BOM

In the Assembly BOM, the Enclosure and Enclosure Drop Shipment fields determine whether an item is a supply of material and if it drop shipped to the vendor.

Items designated as Enclosure Drop Shipment are processed in the Subcontracting Assembly Order page as a Purchase Order. The vendor location address is copied to the Ship-to fields and the Vendor Location Code is copied to the Location Code field on the line.

Note

Ensure that a vendor has been assigned to the item if designating as an Enclosure Drop Shipment.

Locations

To map the supply of material accurately, at least two Location Codes should be defined:

  • One Location Code from which material is provided.
  • One Location Code to which the material to be provided is transferred. This is generally the storage location of the subcontractor.

If several subcontractors are being used, define a separate Location for each subcontractor.

Transfers

The main setting in the Configure to Order Setup page that determines how external production is handled is the Enclosure by field, which can be a Transfer Order or Reclass. Journal. Based on or in addition to this setting, other settings are defined: - Transfer Order - In-Transit Code - Reclass. Journal - Enclosure Transfer Journal Template - Enclosure Transfer Journal Name - Per Purchase New Journal Name

Resource/Vendor Card

The subcontracting step is performed by storing a vendor number in the Subcontractor No. field on the Resource Card. The subcontractor's storage location code to where the material provided is to be transferred is entered on the Vendor Card.
