By‑Products and Reclaimed Items in Production Orders
This section explains how COSMO Process Manufacturing automatically creates and maintains by‑product and reclaimed item lines in production orders, and how manual changes affect planning behavior.
Automatic Line Generation on Production Order Creation
When you create a production order that includes by‑products or reclaimed items, the order lines are added in the following sequence:
| Sequence | Type | Planning Flexibility | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Major Product | Unlimited | Drives the overall order quantity and scheduling. |
| 2…n | By‑Products / Reclaimed Items | None | Quantities are fixed relative to the major product. |
The Planning Flexibility field is automatically set to None for the By‑Products/Reclaimed Items, which ensures that the Planning Worksheet (MRP) does not propose reschedules or quantity adjustments for by‑product lines.
Add By‑Products Manually
You can insert additional by‑products into an existing production order by choosing Line > Add By‑Product on the Lines FastTab.
The Planning Flexibility field defaults to None.
The Quantity field is set to 0 and needs to be updated manually.
Adjust Major Product Quantity
If you change the Quantity on the first production order line (major product), a message opens stating that "You have changed the quantity. Would you like to update the associated By‑Production lines?" If you choose the:
- Yes button, all by‑product/reclaimed item quantities, including user‑added lines, are recalculated using the predefined ratio in the production order.
- No button, only the major product quantity changes; by‑product quantities are unchanged.
Delete Major Product Line
If you delete the first production order line (major product), a message opens asking if you "Would you like to delete the associated Regranulation lines?" If you choose the:
- Yes button, all associated by‑product/reclaimed item lines are removed together with the major product, ensuring a clean production order.
- No button, the by‑product/reclaimed item lines remain in the order. The routing originally linked to the major product is preserved on these remaining lines, allowing continued processing or manual adjustments.
Planning Worksheet Behavior with Manual Quantity Changes
Manual quantity changes made directly in production order lines – whether on the major product or on by‑products/reclaimed items – are not considered by the Planning Worksheet (MRP). When the worksheet generates suggestions, it always references the by‑production quantities specified in the master data (e.g., Production Structure). Any user‑edited quantities on existing production orders are therefore ignored for planning.
Note
When planning suggestions from the worksheet are carried out (accepted and converted into actions), any user‑added by‑product or reclaimed item lines that do not exist in the master data will be deleted from the production order. This ensures that order contents remain synchronized with the default by‑production specifications.
