Editable Master BOM Structure

Master BOMs can be used to combine several levels of Master BOMs - the more BOMs, the harder it becomes to enter data like routing links, production view links, or formulas into the different Master BOMs that still make sense afterwards. With the Structure Representation page, you can open the Master BOM in a tree-structure where you can view all levels and make the same changes that are possible in the Master BOM lines.

After creating the base structure in the Master BOM line, choose the Structure Representation action on the Actions menu. The Structure Representation page opens with the levels of each Master BOM expanded. Use the Toggle Expand / Collapse All icons to expand or collapse all the levels, or the Expand row Collapse row icons to expand/collapse individual rows.

The Structure Representation page includes the same fields from the Master BOM lines along with the Master BOM Status field, which controls whether changes are possible. The status of the originating Master BOM and related Master BOMs are transferred to the Structure Representation page but can be changed using the Under Development or Certify actions.

Note

Changing the status of Master BOMs in the Structure Representation page also changes the status of the related Master BOM.

Changing Status

Similar to a Master BOM, the line information cannot be edited if the Status is Certified. For each level and row in the Structure Representation page, you can change the Master BOM Status field to allow or prevent changes.

Changing the status for a level also changes the status for the same levels as long as it is within the structure. For example, changing the status of any Level 1 will change all Level 1 rows in the structure, but changing the status of a Level 2 will only change the other Level 2 rows within that level.

To change the status, select the level and then choose either the Under Development or Certify action.

Adding Lines

To add a line to the Master BOM, select the location and then choose the New Line action. The line will be added above the selected line. If the last line in the structure is selected, a message will open asking if the new line should be inserted before or after the line.

Deleting Lines

To delete a line in the Master BOM, select the line and then choose the Delete Line action. A message will open to confirm the deletion.

If a line with a sub-structure is deleted, the selected line and sub-structure are deleted.

Refreshing Structure

Due to the temporary nature of the editable Structure Representation page, you only need to run the Refresh Structure action if another user or session has changed one of the Master BOMs since opening the Structure Representation page.

The actions on the Related menu relate to the selected line. Each is described in the following table.

Action Description
Master BOM Card Opens the Master BOM of the selected line.
Card Opens the card of the selected Type on the line, i.e., Work Center Card for Type = Work Center, Item Card for Type = Item, etc.
Item - Master BOM Opens the Item - Master BOM page, which lists the Master BOMs that are assigned to this item.
Attributes (DM) Opens the Master BOM Attributes page, which displays the attributes that were assigned to the Master BOM line. Attributes can also be assigned manually.
