    Source BOM/Routing Changes

When a change is made to the source document (Master BOM or Production BOM/Routing) from which the Construction Order is related to, the Check for Updates function in the Construction Order will indicate that a change exists in the BOM/Routing Source Updated field in the General FastTab (top level item) or the BOM/Routing Source Updated field in the Lines FastTab (lower level item).

The change is determined based on the comparison between the SystemModifiedAt field of the Construction Order line and the source document from when the Construction Order line was created. The types of changes that are recognized are:

    • New BOM/Routing relation added to the item.
    • BOM/Routing relation deleted from the item.
    • BOM/Routing relation of the same type changed (e.g., if once created from a Master BOM and the item gets a new Production BOM No., no change will be evaluated).
    • New Version of BOM/Routing is available.
    • BOM Header/BOM Version Header changed.
    • BOM/Routing line additions/changes to Comments, Personnel, Tools, and Quality Measures.
    • Additions/changes to Attributes and Manufacturing Dimensions.
    Tip

This check can be set to run each time a Construction Order is opened by turning on the Check for Updates toggle in the Construction FastTab of the Configure to Order Setup page.

    Update Complete BOM

If changes were detected for the top level item, the BOM/Routing Source Updated toggle is turned on in the General FastTab. To view the complete BOM/Routing changes for the Construction Order, choose the Update BOM action on the Home menu to open the BOM Compare & Update page. The request BOM page opens with Master BOM, Production BOM, or Routing changes; choose the Yes button to open the BOM Compare & Update page.

    Update BOM Lines

If changes were detected for an assembly in a lower level item, the BOM/Routing Source Updated checkbox is selected on a line in the Lines FastTab. To view the BOM/Routing changes for the BOM, choose the assembly item line and then choose the Update Line from BOM action on the Functions menu to open the BOM Compare & Update page. The request BOM page opens with Master BOM, Production BOM, or Routing changes; choose the Yes button to open the BOM Compare & Update page.

    BOM Compare & Update

The BOM Compare & Update page is used to compare the existing information to the changed information.

    Fields

The majority of the fields are the same as in the Construction Order line. The fields that are unique to the BOM Compare & Update page are described in the following table.

    Field Description
Action Indicates what will be done when the changes are applied to the existing structure. The options are:
    - <blank>: Lines exist on both sides and no changes are detected.
    - Modify: Lines exist on both sides but values in the Construction Line and/or in the Attributes are detected. Choose the value to open the BOM Changes page, which lists the field values that will change, with the old and new values. You can choose the Skip checkbox on any of the changes that you do not want to occur.
    - Insert: The master data has a line that is new/not available in the existing Construction Order. This line will be inserted as is.
    - Delete: This line exists in the Construction Order but not in the master data. This line will be deleted from the existing Construction Order.
Severity Specifies the possible outcomes of applying the changes to the Construction Order. The options are Info, Warning, and Error. Lines with a Severity level of Error cannot be changed.

Choose the value in the field to open the BOM Compare Status page, which lists the reasons for the assigned severity.

If there are multiple issues, the one with the higher severity is shown. For example, if there is an Info and a Warning, the Severity field would display Warning.
Skip User-defined setting that determines if the change should be skipped.

    Actions

The actions on the BOM Compare & Update page are described in the following table.

    Action Description
Apply Changes Modifies, inserts, and deletes all lines as indicated (unless skipped) and then closes the page.
Reset Skip Clears the Skip checkbox on all lines.
Skip Items Selects the Skip checkbox on all lines with Type = Item.
Skip Work Center Selects the Skip checkbox on all lines with Type = Work Center.
Skip Insert Selects the Skip checkbox on all lines with Action = Insert.
Skip Modify Selects the Skip checkbox on all lines with Action = Modify.
Skip Delete Selects the Skip checkbox on all lines with Action = Delete.

    Process

In general, the process starts from the BOM Changes cue in the Role Center. Once changes have been made to a BOM or Routing, the Construction Orders affected are accessible from the BOM Change Log.

When the affected Construction Order is opened, you can run the Check for Updates action if not automatically done via the Check for Updates toggle in the Configure to Order Setup page.

If the BOM/Routing Source Updated toggle is turned on in the General FastTab, choose the Update BOM action to open the BOM Compare & Update page. Review the changes, set any to skip as needed and then choose the Apply Changes action to update the lines. You can also choose to close the page without making any changes.

Change Tracking for Non-Structural Construction Data

In addition to structural BOM data such as components and routings, the comparison also detects and tracks changes in non-structural construction data, including:

    • Manufacturing dimensions
    • Comment lines
    • Tools
    • Personnel
    • Quality measures
    • Attributes assigned to construction lines

Each difference between source and target is classified as an Insert, Modify, or Delete action and shown in the BOM Compare & Update page accordingly. For each item, the old and new values are displayed in the BOM Changes page along with a description of the data that has changed.

You can review all changes before applying them. Individual lines can be skipped, which prevents them from being transferred to the target BOM during the update.

To ensure data integrity, all comparisons are done using a temporary version of the construction order (for which a temporary number series must be defined in the Construction Order Temporary field in the Configure to Order Setup page). This temporary context allows changes to be safely evaluated without affecting the live order.

The functionality provides full transparency across all relevant construction data and supports a reliable update process even for complex configurations.
