Formulas for Setup and Run Times
The formulas for setup and run time calculates the setup and run times of work and machine centers automatically. The result of the formulas replace the values of the Setup Time and Run Time fields. The formula can be entered manually or by using the Formula Editor, accessed by choosing the ellipsis in the Formula Setup Time and Formula Run Time fields.
These formulas have a higher priority then values entered in the Setup Time and Run Time fields.
Tip
The expected capacity is calculated as: Time needed = Setup Time + Run Time / Lot Size * Quantity. For this reason, the Quantity field must be filled in, even for capacity positions.
The calculated Setup and Run Time values are transferred to the routing plan of production orders.
Note
These functions are only relevant if the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Manufacturing modules used.
Example
In the following video, a Master BOM is set up with formulas for calculating the setup time using a dynamic function (see Dynamic Functions) and the run time using a manually captured formula, both based on the POWER variable.
In the checklist template, the POWER variable is defined for calculation.
A POWER value is entered in the document checklist, which is used to calculate the setup time and run time. When the master BOM is opened, the calculated value based on the Exp. Quantity and POWER value from the document checklist is transferred to the Setup Time and Run Time fields on the relevant Document BOM lines.
