Prototype Item in Construction Order Header
The same item/variant prototype function used in a Sales Line is available in manually created Construction Orders, as long as a reservation to the Construction Order header does not exist, it is possible to create and design a new item using Checklists and Master BOMs to calculate the Construction BOM.
Example – Use Prototype Item in Construction Order Header
In the following video, a prototype item for construction orders has been created for the Conveyor Machine based on the power entered in the Document Checklist and a unique Prototype No. Series has been assigned. A placeholder for the POWER value was added to the item description and the POWER variable was added to the Item Attributes with the Relevant to Prototype checkbox selected.
No additional setup has been done in the Master BOMs or Checklist Templates (see the example in Prototype Items in Master BOMs for information about the base setup).
A Construction Order is created manually for this prototype item. In the Document Checklist, a power value of 85 is entered.
When the Request BOM action is run, the Item No. in the Construction Order header is replaced with a new item (D-1000-C001) and the lines are calculated from the Master BOM. The placeholder in the Description field is updated with the power value of 85. The Construction Attributes have also been updated with the power value.
In the Item Card, the Created from Prototype field is set with the original prototype item and the Prototype BOM field shows the Construction Order number that the prototype was created from.
To show how the Construction Order lines are not recalculated when a matching item is found, changes are made in the Construction Order lines for the new prototype item with power 85.
Now, a new Construction Order is manually created. In the Document Checklist, the power value of 85 is entered again. When the Request BOM action is run, the Master BOM is not requested because the same prototype item (D-1000-C001) is used, as well as the (edited) Construction Order lines from the previous Construction Order.
Another new Construction Order is manually created for the prototype item. In the Document Checklist, a power value of 75 is entered. When the Request BOM action is run, the Item No. is replaced with a new item number from the prototype number series (D-1000-C002) because no other item matches this power specification and the lines are calculated from the Master BOM.
In the Item Card, the Created from Prototype field is set with the original prototype item and the Prototype BOM field shows the new Construction Order number that the prototype was created from.
Note
If a variant prototype was used instead of an item prototype, and no matching attributes were found, then a new variant would have been created (from the prototype variant's number series) and entered in the Construction Order header. If a matching item variant was found, the same item/variant would be assigned to the Construction Order header without recalculating the Master BOM.
