Search and Replace Attributes and Variables
Attributes/variables that are used in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing can be searched and replaced using the Attribute Search function. In general, anywhere an attribute/variable is used will be searched, including formulas and description fields.
The Attribute Search function can be accessed:
- using the Tell Me feature by entering either Attribute Search or Variable Search.
- by choosing Actions > Search & Replace from the Variable/Attribute Types page.
Search for attribute/variable
When opened from Tell Me, you will need to enter the attribute/variable to search in the Search for Variable field and then choose the Find action. When opened from the Variable/Attribute Types page, the selected attribute/variable is automatically set and the Find action is automatically run.
View found records
The lines of the Attribute Search page shows the related tables and fields where the attribute/variable was found. You can open the records for a line by choosing the Show Related Records action or by choosing the value in the No. of Records field.
Replace records with new attribute/variable
The Replace with Variable field is automatically set with the same value as in the Search for Variable field. However, the Replace action cannot be run until the Replace with Variable field is set with a different attribute/variable.
Replacing attributes/variables is done per record; you cannot select all lines and perform a mass replacement. Before the replacement is done, you can view the records that will be changed in the Variable Search Result page and choose to change all, some, or none of them:
- Manually select the Change checkbox on lines to be changed.
- Choose the Change All action to select the Change checkbox on all lines.
- Choose the Change None action to clear the Change checkbox on all lines.
- Choose the Toggle Change action to switch (select or clear) the current setting of the Change checkbox on all lines.
Replace attribute/variable in linked fields
Attributes/variables in linked fields refers to fields that are specific to an attribute or variable, such as Variable for Width in the Configure to Order Setup page or Variable for Dynamic BOM in the Checklist Template page.
- Select the line where the attribute(s)/variable(s) need to be changed.
- In the Replace with Variable field, enter the new attribute/variable.
- Choose the Replace action.
- In the Variable Search Result page, select/clear the Change checkbox in the lines to be replaced either manually or using the actions as described above.
- Choose the OK button to complete the replacement and then choose the Yes button to replace the selected records.
Note
If attributes/variables are replaced in Checklist Templates and Master BOMs/Master BOM Versions, the Status field will be changed from Certified to Under Development. Additionally, the last status modified date/user and last date/user modified fields are updated with the change.
Replace attribute/variable in formulas and descriptions
Attributes/variables in formulas and descriptions are entered manually and do not have a linked table to confirm spelling, etc. When searching formulas, any variation of the attribute/variable will be searched and found. For example, the attribute "A_COLOR" will be found when searching for "COLOR" formulas. To ensure the correct attribute/variable is changed, an editable preview field is available to see the intended change and allows you to modify it as needed. Description fields do not find variations but can use the editable preview field if needed.
- Select the line with formulas/descriptions where the attribute(s)/variable(s) need to be changed.
- In the Replace with Variable field, enter the new attribute/variable.
- Choose the Replace action.
- In the Variable Search Result page, the Text Current and Text Preview fields show the current formulas/descriptions and how it will be replaced.
- If the replacement is incorrect, you can:
- choose to keep the Change checkbox cleared so no replacement is made.
- change the attribute/variable back to the original in the Text Preview field and then select the Change checkbox.
- Select/clear the Change checkbox in the lines to be replaced either manually or using the actions as described above.
- Choose the OK button to complete the replacement and then choose the Yes button to replace the selected records.
