Find/Create Translation Function
The Find/Create Translation function is available on the Checklist Question Card, Checklist Answer Card, and Checklist Template pages.
Translations on Checklist Questions and Answers
On the Checklist Question Card and Checklist Answer Card pages, the Find/Create Translation function populates the Translation Code field on the General FastTab with a unique number that is assigned to a Translation Header page, where the translated text is entered. Additionally, the Description (T) field is updated with the description in the language noted in the Language field.
To enter the translation information
- Choose the drop-down arrow in the Translation Code field and then choose Select from full list.
- In the Translations page, choose the Edit action. The first line in the Lines FastTab contains the original text in the default language.
- On an empty line, enter the additional language in the Language Code field and then type the translated text into the Text field.
- Go to the next line and enter another additional language.
- Turn on the Use Alternative Language toggle to search for translations of this text in the specified alternative language (see Initial Setup).
Use the same process to create translations for the Checklist Answers.
Translations on Checklist Templates
On the Checklist Template, the Find/Create Translations action finds existing translations or creates new translations for lines with an empty Translation Code field.
To enter translations on checklist template lines
- On the Checklist Template, enter the questions/answers in the lines.
The existing translation information will populate the Translation Code and Description (T) fields on the lines. - Choose the Find/Create Translations action and then choose the Yes button to find/create translations.
To add the translation to a new translation
- Choose the Translation Code field on the line and then choose Select from full list > Edit.
- On an empty line, enter the additional language in the Language Code field and then type the translated text into the Text field.
- Go to the next line and enter another additional language.
- Go back to the Checklist Template.
- To see the translated text in the Description (T) field on the checklist line, change the Language field on the General FastTab to a language set up in the Translation Header page.
Use Alternative Language
If a language entered in the General FastTab has not been set up with translations, the Description (T) field will display one of the following, depending on the Use Alternative Language setting in the translation.
Use Alternative Language | Alternative Language has Translation | Result in Description (T) Field |
---|---|---|
Yes | Yes | The text is displayed in the alternative language. |
Yes | No | A message states that no translation is found for the language code. |
No | Yes or No | A message states that no translation is found for the language code. |
Example
The following video shows a checklist template with questions and answers that have been set up with languages English (ENU), German (DEU), Spanish (ESP), French (FRA), and Russian (RUS). The Alternative Language is ENU and the Use Alternative Language toggle has been turned on only for the Red and Yellow answers.
The translations for German, Spanish, and French are displayed when the language is changed in the General FastTab. When the Russian language is entered, the translations for Red and Yellow are used and the answer line for Green shows the message that no translation is found for this language. This is because it was missed when the other translations were added. If the translations had been missing for Red or Yellow, then the text would have been displayed in English due to the Use Alternative Language setting.
Although not shown in the video, the Russian translation for Green can be added at this point and then will show correctly.
