Resource Capacity Setup
In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, resources are managed for assembly orders and for projects usually, but not for production orders. To use a resource in production, it must be linked to a work center. Ideally, this work center has the same name as the resource and is only used for resource scheduling.
Link Resource to Work Center
To link a resource to a work center, choose the Create Work Center action on the Home menu, where the specifications for the capacity calculation are entered. This includes the standard Shop Calendar as well as the Shift Schedule for resource scheduling. For more information, see Shop Calendar Shift Settings.
After filling in the Options FastTab in the Create Work Center From Resource page, choose the OK button to complete the creation process. A message asks whether to open the new work center for editing. Choose the Yes button.
In the Work Center Card, a Work Center Group Code must be assigned. This group is used later in the resource scheduling when identifying resources within a team (see Resource Planning Groups).
Note
As with the Resource Card, costs are not relevant because this work center is used for scheduling, not costing.
In the Scheduling FastTab, a Unit of Measure Code must be defined for the work center. The values in the Shop Calendar Code and Shift Schedule Code fields were transferred from the creation process.
Calculate Work Center Capacity
The standard Calculate function of the Work Center Calendar Matrix is used to create the capacity of the work center.
Once calculation is complete, the Work Center Load shows the capacity. Choosing a value in a capacity line opens the Calendar Entries page.
Note
The functions of the resource are not restricted by resource scheduling. It is therefore still possible to create resource capacity and manage jobs and assembly orders as usual. The capacity of the work center does not compete with the resource capacity. Any conflicts resulting from simultaneous occupancy from jobs (or assembly orders) with allocations of the same resource from production orders are not considered.
