Routings
Routings form the basis for production planning and control and include detailed information about the method of manufacturing of a particular item. It includes the operations to be performed and their sequence. For each product, routings contain step-by-step instructions that describe how the product is made.
Routings can be created from the production structure or may be created manually. For information about creating routings, refer to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Help.
Routing Link Codes
In standard Business Central, routing link codes serve the purpose of linking components to be consumed during an operation. When an operation has a due date, the same due date applies to the components with the same link code listed in the production order. In the context of Production Structures, the system generates and assigns routing link codes. These codes are created for each operation and assigned to the components listed before that operation. The routing link code is specifically assigned to the components directly preceding an operation. In cases where multiple operations exist, only the components between the operations are assigned to the next operation. This process is fully automated and requires no user intervention.
This automation accommodates various line types of Production Structures, such as Items, Share of Recipe, Main Recipe, or Production BOM. It ensures that each component is produced in the correct sequence and scheduled for the respective operations where they are consumed.
When it comes to types such as Main Recipes or Production BOMs, it is not feasible to transfer the routing link code of a specific operation to the corresponding lines in the Production BOM. This limitation arises because these recipes are used by multiple operations or routings. Consequently, the routing link codes are added during the calculation of the production order line.
Parallel Operations
Parallel Operations can be set up on a Production Structure line to keep routing positions together.
Setup
The parallel routing structure requires a single routing position as starting entry and a single routing position as termination entry. Therefore, a dummy work center must be defined in the Work Center for Parallel Routing field in the Process Manufacturing Setup page.
This work center is used to add dummy entries before the first or after the last Work Center / Machine Center position that are used as a parallel operation.
Parallel Operation Code
To combine routings that are the next or previous in the Production Structure Line, assign values in the Parallel Operation Code field. The value on a line can be equal to one of the other values but cannot be smaller than a previous one or greater than one of the next. For example, the Parallel Operation Code field can be defined as 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 4 but not 1 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 3 | 4.
The operations in the related routing will be grouped as indicated by the Parallel Operation Code.
