Tools
Tools are work centers and have generally the same functions as a work group. The Work Center Type field on the Tool Work Center Card identifies the work groups as tools. If records are created in the tool card, TOOL automatically becomes the work center type tool.
Tools Setup
The Tool Work Center Card is accessed using Tell Me. Choose the icon, enter Tool Work Centers, and then choose the related link.
In addition to the standard fields on the Work Center Card, the Tool and Amortization FastTabs have been added to create the Tool Work Center Card. The fields on the Tool FastTab determine the usage times of a tool.
The fields on this FastTab are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Cavity | Factor for the producible units. |
Cycle Time | The time, depending on cycle unit of measure, that is needed to produce an item. |
Cycle Time Unit of Measure | Cycle unit of measure that was defined in the Capacity Units of Measure page. |
Cycle Quantity | Quantity, depending of cycle quantity unit of measure. |
Cycle Quantity Unit of Measure | Cycle quantity unit of measure that was defined in the Units of Measure page. |
Ramp-up Time | Needed ramp-up time. |
Ramp-up Time Unit of Measure | Ramp-up time unit of measure that was defined in the Capacity Units of Measure page. |
Setup Time | Needed setup time. |
Setup Time Unit of Meas. | Setup time unit of measure that was defined in the Capacity Units of Measure page. |
Sprue Bush Weight | See Sprue Bush. |
For information about the fields on the Amortization FastTab, see Amortization of Tools.
Work Center Production Rates
A tool determines the Work Center Production Rates and Setup Time of the machine using the following formulas:
- Calculation of performance: Cavity * (Cycle Quantity / Cycle Time)
- Calculation of setup time: Ramp-up time + Tool Setup Time
The information entered on the Tool FastTab on the Tool Work Center Card is transferred to the Tool/Insert FastTab on the Work Center Prod. Rate Card page to calculate the performance and setup times.
Tool Planning
A tool is planned parallel to the machine in the sequence planning. During this, a dummy routing line is created before and after the routing lines of the machine and tool (if no other routing lines are available). The same setup and run times are calculated in the production order for the machine and the corresponding tool.
When a new tool is created, a check verifies whether a tool already exists. If more than one tool is created, only one is designated as the main tool. Only the main tools are displayed in the Sequence Planning page.
When a production order is created, the tools are scheduled at the same time as the machine.
Tools can be changed on the Sequence Planning lines by selecting the line to change on the Lines FastTab and then choosing Functions > Change Tool. Select the new tool from the list that opens, choose the OK button and then choose the Yes button to assign the new tool. The sequence planning and the production order routing lines are updated with the new tool. For more information, see Change Tool.
