Move Lines within Document BOM

When you move lines within the same Document BOM using Cut and Paste, the complete BOM structure is preserved and production view relationships remain consistent.

Complete Structure Preservation

When you move assembly lines within the same Document BOM, the complete structure – including all sublevels – is automatically moved:

  • The entire substructure moves to the target position, even if substructure lines are not explicitly selected.
  • All relevant information associated with the moved lines is preserved.
  • Original line entries and relationships are maintained; no new lines are created.

This automatic process keeps BOM structures intact when you reorganize the Document BOM and prevents data loss or incomplete transfers that would require manual correction.

When you move lines in the Production View within the same Document BOM, link inheritance is applied:

  • The moved line's Belongs to Prod. View Link is reassigned from the new parent's Production View Link; for top-level lines, it is reassigned from the document header's Production View Link.
  • This ensures the structure remains consistent when switching between Construction View and Production View.
  • The move requires the source Production View Link on the parent or header to be filled; otherwise the move is blocked.

This automatic link management keeps Construction View and Production View consistent after you move lines.

To move lines within a Document BOM

  1. Open the Document BOM page.
  2. Select the line or lines to move.
  3. On the Actions menu, choose the Cut action to place the selected line(s) on the clipboard.
  4. Select the target position for the line(s).
  5. On the Actions menu, choose the Paste action to insert the line(s) at the target position.

The complete structure – including all sublevels – moves automatically, with all relationships and information preserved.

Note

Automatic structure preservation and link inheritance apply to moves within the same Document BOM. When pasting between different Document BOMs, standard copy behavior applies.
