    Production View

The Production View is an alternative representation of a structure that allows components and assemblies to be reorganized for production purposes without altering the original Construction View.

In Construction Orders, Document BOMs, and Service BOMs, you can define a Production View for a structure. This view enables you to restructure the BOM hierarchy for production planning, which may differ from the original structure. With Production View Links, components and assemblies can be assigned to a different parent assembly in Production View. Additionally, the Routing Link Code can be maintained separately in Production View, allowing different routing link codes in Production View than in Construction View when needed.

    View Switching

Production View is an alternative organization of the same structure. Use the Switch Const.-/Prod. View action to toggle between Construction View and Production View. The active view is reflected by the Production View indicator on the lines.

    • Construction View: Shows the original structure as maintained in Construction View.
    • Production View: Shows the structure as reorganized for production planning (for example, by using Production View Links), without changing the original Construction View.

    Production View Links

Production View Links control how the assembly hierarchy is reorganized in Production View:

    • Production View Link: Defines a link value that can be used to group lines for the Production View hierarchy.
    • Belongs to Prod. View Link: Assigns a line to a Production View Link, which determines under which parent assembly it is shown in Production View.

By assigning Production View Links, you can reorganize components under different parent assemblies for production purposes without changing the Construction View structure.

Routing Link Code in Production View

The Routing Link Code connects material with a series of operations. In COSMO Discrete Manufacturing, the Routing Link Code is used to assign material provided for an external manufacturing step.

In Construction View, the Routing Link Code represents the value used in Construction View.

In Production View, the Routing Link Code can be maintained independently from Construction View. The system keeps two values (one for each view) and switches which value is active when you toggle between Construction View and Production View.

    Field behavior:

    • Routing Link Code: The Routing Link Code that is currently active in the view you are looking at (Construction View or Production View).
    • Routing Link Code Saved: Stores the other view's Routing Link Code so both values can be preserved when switching views.

If Production View uses the same Routing Link Code as Construction View, there is effectively no separate Production View value for that line.

    Production View Usage

The following procedures describe how to work with Production View in Construction Orders, Document BOMs, and Service BOMs.

    Viewing Production View

    1. Open a Construction Order, Document BOM, or Service BOM.
    2. Choose Actions > Functions > Switch Const.-/Prod. View for Construction Order, Actions > Switch Const.-/Prod. View for Document BOM, or Related > Functions > Switch Const.-/Prod. View for Service BOM.
    3. For the Construction Order, the Production View field in the header indicates you are now viewing the Production View as well as the Production View field in the Construction Line Details FactBox indicates Yes or No for each line. For the Document BOM, the Production View field shows Yes or No in the Document BOM Details FactBox for each line.
    4. The BOM structure is reorganized according to the Production View Links.
    Note

In Service BOMs, add the Production View Link and Belongs to Prod. View Link fields to the lines via the Personalize feature to see the assembly hierarchy in Production View

    Setting Production View Links

To reorganize the BOM structure for production:

    1. Switch to Production View using the Switch Const.-/Prod. View action.
    2. For each component you want to reassign, enter or modify the Production View Link field to specify which assembly it should belong to in Production View.
    3. The component will appear under the specified assembly in Production View while remaining in its original location in Construction View.

Overriding Routing Link Codes in Production View

To assign a component to a different routing operation in Production View:

    1. Switch to Production View using the Switch Const.-/Prod. View action.
    2. Select the component line you want to modify.
    3. Edit the Routing Link Code field to specify the production‑specific routing operation.
    4. The Production‑View override is stored when switching views (the values are swapped).
    5. The component will use this routing link code in Production View only.
    6. To revert to the Construction View routing link code, set Routing Link Code in Production View to match the Construction View value and switch views.

    Switching Back to Construction View

    1. Switch to Construction View using the Switch Const.-/Prod. View action.
    2. The Production View field in the header is cleared and/or the Production View field in the FactBox shows No, indicating you are viewing Construction View.
    3. The BOM structure returns to the original engineering organization.
    4. Production View-specific routing link codes are not visible in Construction View.

    BOM Compare Considerations

BOM Compare uses the fields configured in the BOM Compare Fields page. For Construction Orders and Document BOMs, the Routing Link Code is included in compare/update. Compare/update applies changes to the current Routing Link Code value stored in the line record; there is no special handling that compares Construction View and Production View values.

If you want to avoid validation during compare/update for this field, configure Routing Link Code in the BOM Compare Fields page with Validate in Modify setting disabled.

    Production Orders

When creating a production order from a Construction Order or Document BOM, the current line data is used as the source (including hierarchy and routing link codes). If the production order is created while working in Production View, the structure and routing link codes reflect that view; if it is created in Construction View, they reflect the Construction View.

For production orders created from Construction Orders or Document BOMs, the Planning Flexibility field is set to None on production order lines when the source type is set and the current value is Unlimited.
