Document BOM Header

The Document BOM Header page provides an overview of the Document BOM information and access to the Document BOM lines. You can view header-level information and manage the complete BOM structure from this page.

Access the Document BOM Header page using the Tell Me feature by entering Document BOMs, choosing the related link, and then selecting the Document BOM from the list.

General FastTab

The fields on the General FastTab are described in the following table. The only field that is editable is the Production View Link field.

Field	Description
No.	Specifies the unique number of the Document BOM.
Source Document Type	Specifies the type of the source document (for example, Sales Quote, Sales Order, Project Line).
Source Document No.	Specifies the number of the source document.
Source Document Line No.	Specifies the line number of the source document.
Status	Indicates whether the source document referenced by the Document BOM is still active. The options are: - Open: The referenced source document (Sales Line, Project Budget Line, or Procurement Line) still exists and is not yet finished. - Closed: The referenced source document has been deleted or is otherwise finished (for example, the sales order line has been posted, the project has been completed, or the procurement line has been finished). This field is maintained automatically. On the Document BOM Header card it is shown as read-only.
Item No.	Specifies the item number for the Document BOM.
Variant Code	Specifies the variant code for the item.
Unit of Measure Code	Specifies the unit of measure code for the item.
Quantity	Specifies the quantity of the item.
Location Code	Specifies the location code for the item.
Checklist No.	Specifies the checklist number assigned to the Document BOM.
Shipment Date	Specifies the shipment date for the Document BOM.
Constr. Inquiry Status	Shows the status of the linked Construction Inquiry for the whole Document BOM. Choosing the field enables you to create a new Construction Inquiry or open existing inquiries. For more information, see Construction Inquiry.
Production View	Indicates whether the Document BOM is currently displayed in Production View. NOTE: If lines have different Production View values, the header display reflects the value taken from the Document BOM lines (as calculated by the system) and may not represent every line.
Production View Link	Specifies the production view code for the assembly unit that will be linked to the component. For more information, see Production View.
BOM/Routing updates available	Indicates if BOM/Routing updates are available for the header or any lines. This toggle is turned on when either the header's BOM/Routing Source Updated toggle is turned on OR when the BOM/Routing Source Updated checkbox is selected in any line. For more information, see Source BOM/Routing Changes.
BOM/Routing Source Updated	Indicates whether the source BOM or Routing has been changed since the Document BOM lines were created or last updated based on the SystemModifiedAt field. This field is automatically updated when changes are detected from manually running the Check for Updates function or if the Check for Updates toggle is turned in the Configure to Order Setup page. For more information, see Source BOM/Routing Changes.

Lines FastTab

The Lines FastTab displays the Document BOM lines for the item. All line fields are described in the Document BOM documentation.

The Document BOM lines can be edited when both of the following conditions are met:

• The source document type is a Sales Line (Quote, Order, Blanket Order, Return Order, Invoice, Credit Memo) or Project Line.
• The Document BOM not editable toggle on the related item is turned off.

Manage Menu

The actions on the Manage menu of the Lines FastTab are described in the following table.

Action	Description
New Line	Adds a new line to the Document BOM.
Delete Line	Deletes the selected lines and their sub-structures from the Document BOM.

Structure Menu

The actions on the Structure menu of the Lines FastTab are described in the following table.

Action	Description
New Line (Above)	Inserts a new empty line above the current line, keeping the same level.
New Line (Below)	Inserts a new empty line below the current line, keeping the same level.
New Sub-Line	Inserts a new empty line one level below the current line, as its last sub-line.
Move Up	Moves the marked position(s) up within the same assembly in the BOM structure, swapping the order with the preceding line under the same parent line. If there is no line above to move it up to, an error will be displayed. If moving multiple positions, all marked lines must have the same "Level", otherwise an error will be displayed.
Move Down	Moves the marked position(s) down within the same assembly in the BOM structure, swapping the order with the following line under the same parent line. If there is no line below to move it down to, an error will be displayed. If moving multiple positions, all marked lines must have the same "Level", otherwise an error will be displayed.
Move Left	Moves the marked position(s) up one level in the BOM structure. If moving multiple positions, all marked lines must have the same "Level", otherwise an error will be displayed.
Move Right	Moves the marked position(s) down one level in the BOM structure. If moving multiple positions, all marked lines must have the same "Level", otherwise an error will be displayed.
Cut	Enables individual items, multiple items and complete structures from the same or a different Document BOM to be cut and copied to the clipboard. When moving lines within the same Document BOM, the complete structure including all substructure levels is moved automatically. For more information, see Move Lines within Document BOM.
Copy	Enables individual items, multiple items and complete structures from the same or a different Document BOM to be copied to the clipboard.
Paste	Enables individual items, multiple items and complete structures that were copied to the clipboard from the same or a different Document BOM to be inserted here. When moving lines within the same Document BOM using Cut and Paste, substructures are moved automatically even if not explicitly selected. For more information, see Move Lines within Document BOM.

Line Menu

The actions on the Line menu of the Lines FastTab are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Open Next Level	In a multi-level BOM, opens a new page that displays entries of the next level only.
Attributes (DM)	Opens the attributes that were assigned to the Document BOM line. Attributes can also be assigned manually here.
Reserve	Enables reservations to be made manually (for example, from the warehouse stock). This action is not available for information lines (lines where Information Line = true).
Reservation Entries	Displays the reserved quantity of reservation items that have been generated for this position (for example, from the date of promised delivery).
Item Tracking Lines	Opens the Item Tracking Lines where you can assign item tracking to components that are subject to management in batches or by serial numbers. This is standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central item tracking functionality. Item tracking assigned here is transferred to the related Prod. Order Lines and Prod. Order Components when a production order is created. NOTE: Item tracking can also be assigned to Document BOM lines where Information Line = true and Part Type = Production. In this case the tracking is transferred to the related Prod. Order Line.
Create Construction Inquiry	Creates a construction inquiry for the selected Document BOM line (see Construction Inquiry).
Open Construction Inquiry	Opens the construction inquiry or inquiries created for the selected Document BOM line (see Construction Inquiry).
Create Separate Prod. Order	Creates a separate production order for the selected Document BOM line that has the Separate Prod. Order checkbox selected. NOTE: Before creating the separate production order, a BOM structure check is run. If warnings are found and you choose not to continue, the production order is not created and the BOM Warning Log is shown. For more information, see BOM Structure Validation. If a source line is frozen, the line unit cost is transferred to the production order component unit cost. Production orders created with this action are created with Planning Flexibility = None on the resulting Production Order lines. Planning runs (MRP/MPS) can still use these lines for balancing demand and supply, but they do not propose rescheduling, quantity changes, or cancellation for those lines. If you want planning to propose changes for these lines, set Planning Flexibility manually (for example, to Unlimited).
Comments	Indicates standard comments from production BOMs, Master BOMs, or Construction Order lines but can be changed or new comments can be added. These comments will transfer to Construction Order lines and Production BOMs/Production Order Components.
Dimensions	Opens the Dimension Set Entries page, which displays the non-editable dimensions assigned to the Document BOM line.
Manufacturing Dimensions	Opens the Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page, which displays the manufacturing dimensions assigned to the Document BOM line. This action is available if the integration with COSMO Process Manufacturing is used. For more information, see Manufacturing Dimensions in Document BOMs and Construction Orders.
Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (all Lines)	Synchronizes attributes with manufacturing dimensions for all lines of the Document BOM. Only attributes for which the Mfg. Dim. Sync. in Orders field is selected in the Variable/Attribute Types page are transferred. This action is available if the integration with COSMO Process Manufacturing is used. For more information, see Transfer Attributes from Master BOMs to Document BOMs and Construction Orders.
Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (curr. Lines)	Synchronizes attributes with manufacturing dimensions for the currently selected Document BOM line only. Only attributes for which the Mfg. Dim. Sync. in Orders field is selected in the Variable/Attribute Types page are transferred. This action is available if the integration with COSMO Process Manufacturing is used. For more information, see Transfer Attributes from Master BOMs to Document BOMs and Construction Orders.
Tools	Indicates standard tools from production BOMs, Master BOMs, or Construction Order lines but can be changed or new tools can be added. These tools will transfer to Construction Order lines and Production BOMs/Production Order Components.
Personnel	Indicates standard personnel from production BOMs, Master BOMs, or Construction Order lines but can be changed or new personnel can be added. This personnel information will transfer to Construction Order lines and Production BOMs/Production Order Components.
Quality Measures	Indicates standard quality measures from production BOMs, Master BOMs, or Construction Order lines but can be changed or new quality measures can be added. These quality measures will transfer to Construction Order lines and Production BOMs/Production Order Components.
Skill Sets	Opens the BOM Skill Sets page for the selected Document BOM line. Use the Skills action to maintain skill set entries for Process Manufacturing (PM) scheduling requirements. In archived Document BOMs, choose Skill Sets to open archived skill sets, and then choose Skills to open archived skill set entries. For more information, see Skill Sets in Document BOMs and Construction Orders.
Search Item by Attribute (DM)	Opens the Search Item by Attribute (DM) page, where you can search for items to be added to the Document BOM line based on specified characteristics assigned to the items. For more information, see Search Item by Attribute (DM).

Functions Menu

The actions on the Functions menu of the Lines FastTab are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Request BOM from Line	Opens the Master BOM for the component in a Document BOM line, if it has its own master BOM. During BOM/routing-based line creation or update, if the unit cost is derived from source logic, the Freeze Unit Cost (CC) field can be set automatically to preserve that transferred unit cost against later automatic recalculation.
Update Line from BOM	Opens the BOM Compare & Update page, which shows the difference between the Document BOM (for lower levels) and changes made to the source Master BOM or Production BOM/Routing if changes were detected from manually running the Check for Updates function or if the Check for Updates toggle is turned in the Configure to Order Setup page. Detected changes are indicated in the BOM/Routing Source Updated field. For more information, see Source BOM/Routing Changes. During BOM/routing-based line creation or update, if the unit cost is derived from source logic, the Freeze Unit Cost (CC) field can be set automatically to preserve that transferred unit cost against later automatic recalculation.
Update Unit Cost & Price	Updates unit prices and, where allowed, unit costs on lines. For lines with the Freeze Unit Cost (CC) checkbox selected, the Unit Cost (CC) is not recalculated. The Unit Price can still be updated according to the standard update logic. If values change while the page is open, the Changed toggle is turned on. For more information, see Update Unit Costs and Prices.
Purch. G/L Acc./Item	Creates a purchase quote/order or requisition line for a component or against a G/L account for an item that does not yet exist for demand and normally would never be created (see Create Purchase Documents for G/L Accounts and Components and Document BOM Planning Pool). When a purchase-related unit cost is written back to Document BOM or Construction lines, the Freeze Unit Cost (CC) checkbox is selected so the posted/transferred cost remains stable during later automatic cost updates. Purchase documents and requisition lines created from a Document BOM are created with Planning Flexibility = None. With Planning Flexibility = None, planning runs (MRP/MPS) can still use these lines for balancing demand and supply, but they do not propose rescheduling, quantity changes, or cancellation for those lines. If you want planning to propose changes for these lines, set Planning Flexibility manually (for example, to Unlimited).
Create Items & BOMs	Creates new Production BOMs and Master BOMs using the Document BOM line. New Items are also created and will be written to the Document BOM line. For more information, see Create Items and BOMs. If the integration of COSMO Process Manufacturing is used, this action will create a new Production Structure using the Document BOM line.
Compare BOM for line	Checks the selected Document BOM line (and substructures) against another BOM and detects insertions, deletions, and modifications (see Compare and Update Document BOMs).
Search Item by Attribute (DM)	Opens the Search Item by Attribute (DM) page, where you can search for items to be added to the Document BOM line based on specified characteristics assigned to the items. For more information, see Search Item by Attribute (DM).

The actions on the Document BOM Header page are described in the following sections.

Home Menu

The actions in the Home menu are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Request BOM	Opens a dialog page that enables the complete master BOM or production BOM/routing of the item in the sales line to be opened. However, to do this all the Document BOM lines must be deleted first. - If a master BOM exists for the item, it is displayed in the top of the page. - If no production BOM or routing exists for the item, the related toggles are inactive. - If a production BOM and routing exists for the item, the toggles are active and the description of each is shown to the right. If there is a master BOM, the toggles are turned off. If there is no master BOM, the toggles are turned on automatically. To choose the production BOM/routing over the master BOM, turn on the toggles. In any case, you can decide whether only one or all levels of the BOM need to be opened. The Suppress Information BOM toggle can be set to prevent the system from requesting or expanding BOMs for components where the Part Type ≠ Production. As a result, only production-relevant structures are resolved, while non-production components are excluded from further BOM expansion. The Update Texts toggle is available when the dialog is opened from a Sales Order line. When selected, the Description, Description 2, and Description 3–5 fields on the sales line are reset from the Item or Item Variant card, and attribute placeholders in those descriptions (for example, #POWER#) are replaced with the current configured values. The toggle is off by default. NOTE: Turning on Update Texts overwrites any descriptions you have manually entered on the sales line without an additional confirmation. Choose the OK button to assign the BOM to the sales line as the Document BOM. NOTE: If a production BOM/routing exists but a master BOM doesn't, you will get an error if you turn off the toggles and choose the OK button. When the configuration feature is being used, the BOM is calculated using formulas when it is opened and configured on an order-related basis (see Dynamic Master BOM). During BOM/routing-based line creation or update, if the unit cost is derived from source logic, the Freeze Unit Cost (CC) field can be set automatically to preserve that transferred unit cost against later automatic recalculation.
Update BOM	Opens the BOM Compare & Update page, which shows the difference between the Document BOM top level and changes made to the source Master BOM or Production BOM/Routing if changes were detected from manually running the Check for Updates function or if the Check for Updates toggle is turned in the Configure to Order Setup page. Detected changes are indicated in the BOM/Routing Source Updated field in the General FastTab. For more information, see Source BOM/Routing Changes. NOTE: In the dialog page, the Suppress Information BOM toggle can be set to prevent the system from requesting or expanding BOMs for components where the Part Type ≠ Production. Create Prod. Order	Creates a production order for the entire Document BOM. If a source line is frozen, the line unit cost is transferred to the production order component unit cost. Production orders created from a Document BOM (including the main production order) are created with Planning Flexibility = None on the resulting Production Order lines. With Planning Flexibility = None, planning runs (MRP/MPS) can still use these lines for balancing demand and supply, but they do not propose rescheduling, quantity changes, or cancellation for those lines. If you want planning to propose changes for these lines, set Planning Flexibility manually (for example, to Unlimited).
Create Construction Order	Creates a Construction Order from the Document BOM. The system confirms whether a Construction Order should be created for the specified sales document and line. After creation, the Construction Order opens automatically.
Schedule	With this function, scheduling occurs based on the Document BOM. The scheduling process is determined by the Scheduling Implementation setting in Configure to Order Setup: - If Legacy is selected, the COSMO Discrete Manufacturing scheduling is used, which schedules in days. - If Production Order is selected, the standard scheduling in Business Central is used, which schedules in seconds. Additionally, the last chosen direction (Forward / Backward) is saved in the Sales Line to be used for generating the final Production Order. NOTE: Before scheduling, a BOM structure check is run. If warnings are found, you can decide whether to continue. If you choose not to continue, scheduling is canceled and the BOM Warning Log is shown. For more information, see BOM Structure Validation. Scheduling considers all the times for resources, work centers and groups of work centers entered in the Document BOM. The items are always scheduled so that they must be available to an assembly at the start of the first series of operations. Limited capacities are considered. The following types of scheduling are possible: - Forward: Scheduling of the Document BOM is performed for the future starting at the start date. The Starting Date field must be completed manually. - Backward: Scheduling of the Document BOM is performed backward starting at the end date. The Ending Date field must be completed manually. NOTE: If the Scheduling Implementation field is set to Production Order, then lines with the Separate Prod. Order checkbox selected respect the Shipment Date fixed field setting when determining the due-date basis during scheduling. If the Shipment Date fixed checkbox is selected (or the line's Due Date field is empty), scheduling uses the line's Shipment Date as the due-date basis; otherwise it uses the line's Due Date as the basis. If the Legacy option is selected, different results can occur between scheduling with the Document BOM and the Production Order.
Transfer Due Date in Shipment Date	Enables the schedule result to be transferred to the Shipment Date field on the Document BOM lines. Lines with the Shipment Date fixed checkbox selected are excluded and will not be overwritten.
Matrix per Version	Opens the DM BOM Matrix per Version Matrix page, which compares the containing components from all Document BOMs, Construction Orders, and Production Orders that belong together, including their archived versions. For more information, see Compare CTO BOMs with Matrix per Version.
Switch Const.-/Prod. View	Switches between the construction and the production view. For more information, see Production View. NOTE: After switching the view, a BOM structure check is run and the BOM Warning Log is shown if warnings are found. For more information, see BOM Structure Validation.
Source Document	Opens the referenced document for the selected Document BOM record. For example, if the source is a Sales Order line, the Sales Order opens.

Report Menu

The Print BOM action opens the print dialog for the Document BOM report, filtered for the current Document BOM.

Release Menu

The actions on the Release menu are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Release	Changes the status of all Document BOM lines to Released. Additionally, a variant code will be created automatically for released lines with Part Type = Purchase. NOTE: Before releasing the Document BOM, a BOM structure check is run. If warnings are found, you can decide whether to continue. If you choose not to continue, the status is not changed and the BOM Warning Log is shown. For more information, see BOM Structure Validation.
Reopen	Changes the status of all Document BOM lines back to Open.

Actions Menu

The actions on the Actions menu are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Request Schedule Plan	Creates a schedule plan from the Document BOM. The schedule plan provides capacity planning based on the Document BOM structure. For more information, see Operation Scheduling.
Components Planning Pool	Opens the Document BOM Planning Pool page, which shows the availability of all required components. For more information, see Document BOM Planning Pool.
Assign New Line No.	Enables the Document BOM to be renumbered. This is necessary when no further new lines can be added to the Document BOM using the Auto Split Key function of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Create Construction Inquiry (whole BOM)	Creates a construction inquiry for the entire Document BOM (see Construction Inquiry).
Open Construction Inquiry (whole BOM)	Opens the construction inquiry or inquiries created for the entire Document BOM (see Construction Inquiry).
Check for Updates	Checks if a source BOM or Routing has been changed since the Document BOM lines were created or last updated based on the SystemModifiedAt field. If changes are found, the BOM/Routing Source Updated checkbox is selected. For more information, see Source BOM/Routing Changes.
Compare BOM	Checks all Document BOM lines against another BOM and detects insertions, deletions, and modifications (see Compare and Update Document BOMs).
Check BOM	Checks the BOM structure for inconsistent Routing Link Codes. If warnings are found, the BOM Warning Log is shown so you can review the affected lines. This action does not change the status of the Document BOM. For more information, see BOM Structure Validation.

Related Menu

The actions on the Related menu are described in the following table.

Action	Description
Document BOM Line	Opens the Document BOM page for the Document BOM associated with the source Sales Line or Project Budget Line. This action is only available when the source document type is a Sales Line or Project Budget Calculation Line.
List	Opens the Document BOMs list page. The Open and Closed views can be used to filter the list by the Status field. Selecting a Document BOM from the list opens the Document BOM Header page for that Document BOM.
Construction Order	Opens the Construction Order page for the Construction Order linked to the source Sales Line. This action is only available when the source document type is a Sales Line.
Structure Representation	Displays the Document BOM in a tree-structure where you can expand or collapse the different levels. If you have the integration with Advanced Manufacturing Suite (AMS), the Document Box FactBox from COSMO Document Management System is available in the Structure Master BOM Lines page. For the more information, see Integration of COSMO Document Management System.
Calculation	Opens the Calculations page to create a new calculation or to view an existing calculation (see Integration of COSMO Calculation). This action is only available when the source document type is a Sales Line.
Order Schedule Plan	Opens the Document Schedule page, which shows the capacity planning for the Document BOM. This action is only available when the source document type is a Sales Line. For more information, see Document Schedule.

FactBox

The Document BOM Details FactBox provides information about the selected Document BOM line, including access to the card of the related type, availability, substitutions, sales prices and line discounts, attributes (DM), production view, and rounding precision.
