Text in Master BOMs and Checklists
Text from COSMO Text Module that is added to master BOMs and checklists is transferred to the document checklists, document BOMs, construction orders, production orders, and service BOMs. This text may originate from items, g/l accounts, resources, work centers, machine centers, or production BOMs as well as being added manually to master BOM or checklist lines.
Text in master BOMs
Text added to items will be transferred to the master BOM, which is transferred to document BOMs and construction BOMs. Text can be added manually to each as well.
If the text is set up with a Print Mgt. Code that includes the Master BOM Line, Document BOM, or Construction Header/Line table, then a pop-up window will open with the text when the item is added to the header or line.
To view item text in master BOM lines
Text added to items is accessible when added to the master BOM line by a pop-up window, by choosing Line > Line Texts on the Lines FastTab, or by choosing the Yes value in the Line Text exists field on the line.
To add text to master BOM lines
You can also add text to any master BOM lines in the Edit Text page.
- Choose the icon, enter Master BOMs, and then choose the related link.
- Choose the line to add text to.
- On the Lines FastTab, choose Line > Line Texts.
- To use the Rich Text Editor, choose the Rich Text Editor or Rich Text Editor (Line Conversion) action (see Text Module Line).
- To add text without using the Rich Text Editor:
- In the Text field, enter the relevant text.
- In the Language Code field, enter the language for the text if necessary.
- Select the Italic, Bold, or Underline checkbox to add formatting.
- In the Color field, select the color of the text.
- Fill in the Print Mgt. Code as needed.
- Fill in additional lines as needed.
- Choose the Close button.
Text in master BOM versions
Text included in master BOMs is available in the version document if the Copy from Header action is run.
Text in checklists
Text added to checklist answers will be transferred to the checklist templates and document checklists (checklists opened from sales/purchase lines and construction orders).
If the text is set up with a Print Mgt. Code that includes the Checklist Line Template table, then a pop-up window will open with the text when the answer is added to the checklist template line.
To add text to checklist answers
- Choose the icon, enter Checklist Answers, and then choose the related link.
- On the Related menu, choose Answer > Text Module to open the Text Module Card or the Text Module List page.
- If the Text Module List page opens, choose the New action.
- Enter the language code or turn on the All Languages toggle.
- Enter a description of the text.
- To use the Rich Text Editor, choose Manage > Rich Text Editor or Rich Text Editor (Line Conversion) on the Lines FastTab (see Text Module Line).
- To add text without using the Rich Text Editor:
- In the Text field, enter the relevant text.
- In the Language Code field, enter the language for the text if necessary.
- Select the Italic, Bold, or Underline checkbox to add formatting.
- In the Color field, select the color of the text.
- Fill in the Print Mgt. Code field to have the text pop-up when the answer is added to a Checklist Template line.
- Fill in additional lines as needed.
- Choose the Close button.
To view text in checklist template lines
Text added to checklist answers is accessible when added to the checklist template line either by a pop-up window, by choosing Checklist > Line Texts on the Lines FastTab, or by choosing the Yes value in the Line Text exists field on the line.

To view text in document sub-checklist lines
Text added to checklist template lines in a sub-checklist is accessible from the document checklist by choosing the line with a sub-checklist and then choosing Line > Sub-Checklist on the Lines FastTab. In the Sub-Checklist page, you can open the text by choosing the Yes value in the Line Text exists field or by choosing Line > Line Texts on the Related menu.
New text can be added in the Edit Text page as explained above.
Text in archived checklists
Text included in checklists is available in the archived document.
Variable for Extended Text
In addition to adding text to checklist and Master BOM lines individually, you can use the Variable for Extended Text functionality from the Configure to Order Setup page to transfer the checklist line text to the Document BOM/Construction BOM line text when the Master BOM is requested as well as to the related production orders. The text will also be transferred to the Production Order Components, Planning and Requisition Worksheet, and Purchase Order.
To set up the variable for extended text
- Open the Checklist Template and enter the line text as described above.
- Open the related Master BOM.
- Choose the line to transfer checklist text to.
- On the Lines FastTab, choose Line > Attributes.
- In the Attribute field, enter the same attribute that was entered in the Variable for Extended Text field in the Dyn. BOM FastTab on the Configure to Order Setup page.
- In the Formula Value field, enter the same variable that was entered in the Variable for Dynamic BOM field on the checklist line that contains the extended text.
Note
The value of the checklist variable must not equal zero or TRUE if the text should be copied to the BOM.
During the calculation of the BOM, the text that was entered in the checklist will be copied as line text to the BOM line.
