Test Plan Assignment for Components and Operations

When planning to create test orders for component items and operations, the Test Plan No. field is not populated in the Test Plan Assignment page because it is assigned to the Production BOM or Routing line instead. However, a line needs to be added to the Test Plan Assignment for either the component/routing or a relevant item category code, which provides the instructions for the testing.

    Test Plan Assignment Setup

The setup in the Test Plan Assignment page is the same for components and operations. The test plan can be assigned to the component item or the item category code from the Item Card or via the Tell Me feature.

    1. Open the Test Plan Assignment page from the:

      • Item Card
        1. On the Quality Assurance menu, choose the Test Plan Assignment action.
        2. On a new line, choose what will be tested in the Source Type field:
          • Component for items/components
          • Operation for routings
        3. The component item number is already populated in the Item No. field.
        4. To assign the test plan to an item category instead, fill in the Item Category Code field. The Item No. field is cleared.
      • Tell Me feature
        1. Enter Test Plan Assignment and choose the related link.
        2. Change the Source Type Filter to Component or Operation.
        3. To assign the test plan to:
          • a component item, fill in the Item No. field.
          • an item category, fill in the Item Category Code field.
    2. In the Item Test Order Option field, choose what the test order is based on, e.g., lot, serial number, etc.

    3. In the Sampling Method field, enter if the sampling method according to DIN ISO 2859 - Part 1 should be applied.

    4. If a sampling method is defined, choose an Inspection Severity Code.

    5. Do not fill in the Test Plan No. field. The test plan is assigned in the Production BOM/Routing line.

    6. Fill in the other fields as needed (see Test Plan Assignment Page).

Test Plan Assignment to Production BOM/Routing Lines

In the produced item's Production BOM and/or Routing, assign a default Test Plan to the component item and/or operation line, respectively. This test plan will be copied to the Test Plan No. field on the Prod. Order Component and Prod. Order Routing line for each production order.

Test Plan Usage in Prod. Order Components/Routings and Test Order Creation

When a production order is created, the Quality Assurance information from the Production BOM and Routing transfers to the production order component and/or routing lines, where test orders can be created. In the component lines, changes can be made to the test plans as needed.

Adjust Test Plan in Prod. Order Components

In the Prod. Order Components, the Test Plan can be manually changed to a different test plan or a new test plan can be created based on the existing test plan.

    Note

It is not possible to edit the Test Plan in the Prod. Order Routing lines at this time.

    Choose a Different Test Plan

To change to a different test plan, go to the Test Plan No. field and select a different test plan.

Create New Test Plan Based on Existing Test Plan

    1. In the Prod. Order Components line, select the line with the test plan.
    2. On the Quality Assurance menu, choose the Copy Test Plan action.
    3. A new test plan is created and assigned to the Test Plan No. field.
    4. On the Quality Assurance menu, choose the Customize Test Plan action.
    5. Make the required changes.
    6. Fill in the Valid from or Valid to fields.
    7. Change the Status to Certified.

    Create Test Orders

Depending on the setting of the Prod. Test Order Creation field in Quality Assurance Setup, the test orders are created automatically or can be created manually.

    • Automatic Test Order Creation
      • If the Prod. Test Order Creation field = Prod. Order Release, then test orders are created automatically by changing the status of a production order to Released.
If required, ensure that item tracking is assigned before changing the status.
      • If the Prod. Test Order Creation field = First Output, then test orders are created automatically when the first output is posted for a released production order.
If required, ensure that item tracking is assigned before the first output is posted.
    • Manual Test Order Creation
      • If the Prod. Test Order Creation field = Manual, then choose the Create Test Orders action on the Quality Assurance menu.

The created test orders are accessible from the Quality Assurance menu on the Prod. Order Components and the Related menu on the Prod. Order Routings.
