Assembly Orders
The configuration capabilities for calculating quantity and validity from COSMO Discrete Manufacturing are available in the Assembly BOM, which work with the Document Checklist from either a Sales Quote or Order.
Item Card
To use the configuration capabilities with an assembly item, the following fields must be set in the Item Card:
- Replenishment FastTab
- Replenishment System = Assembly
- Assembly Policy = Assemble-to-Order
- Config. to Order FastTab
- Part Type
- Standard (automatically copies to assembly lines)
- Production (must be added manually to assembly lines)
- Part Type
Assembly BOM
Opened from the Item Card, the Assembly BOM specifies what is needed to assemble the item. The Formula Valid and Formula Quantity per fields allow you calculate quantity per and which items/resources are used based on the input in the Document Checklist.
For example, a power variable in the checklist template is used in the Assembly BOM to determine the quantity per based on the power entered:

Therefore, if a POWER value of 91 is entered in the Document Checklist, then item 1100 is excluded, item 1200 is included for a quantity of 4.55, and resource MICHAEL is included for a quantity of 91.
Assembly Items in Sales Lines
After entering an assembly item in a sales line, the Assembly BOM is accessible by choosing Line > Related Information > Assemble to Order > Assemble-to-Order Lines. You can view/edit the lines or choose Process > Show Document to open the Assembly Quote/Order to work on the assembly lines.
Part Type = Standard
Upon opening these pages, the standard assembly BOM is shown. To use the configuration formulas from the Assembly BOM instead, choose the Refresh Lines with Formulas action on the:
- Actions menu in the Assemble-to-Order Lines page.
- Actions > Functions menu in the Assembly Quote/Order page.
The assembly lines are updated with the calculated quantity per and/or with the applicable lines based on the validity.
Part Type = Production
If the item assigned to the sales line has Part Type = Production, these pages will be empty. To update them with the configured and calculated assembly lines, run the Refresh Lines with Formulas action as described for the Standard part type.
Checklists
If changes need to be made to the configuration based on the checklist, you can open the Document Checklist from the Assembly Quote/Order page, either by choosing the value in the Checklist No. field on the General FastTab or by choosing the Checklist action on the Related menu. Apply the changes by running the Refresh Lines with Formulas action.
Attributes
Attributes are available in Assembly BOMs and Assembly documents via the Attributes (DM) action on the:
- Assembly BOM - BOM menu
- Assemble-to-Order Lines - Line menu
- Assembly Quote/Order - Line menu on Lines FastTab
- Blanket Assembly Order - Line menu on Lines FastTab
- Posted Assembly Order - Line menu on Lines FastTab
When entering information in the Assembly BOM, attributes can be used with the Variable for Unit Cost and Variable for Component functions to calculate the Unit Cost using a formula or to replace dummy items or resources with selected numbers in the Checklist.
Copy Document BOM Lines to Assembly Lines
Items and resources in a Document BOM can be transferred to assembly lines using the Paste from BOM Clipboard function.
In the Document BOM, choose the item or resource lines to copy to the assembly lines and then on the Actions menu, choose Functions > Copy. In the either assembly line page, choose where to enter the copied lines and then choose the Paste from BOM Clipboard action on the:
- Actions menu in the Assemble-to-Order Lines page.
- Lines FastTab > Functions menu in the Assembly Order page.
