Assisted Setup
In Microsoft Business Central, guided experiences are interactive wizards that assist users in completing specific tasks within the software. These guides take users through the process step-by-step, offering instructions and prompts along the way. The COSMO Discrete Manufacturing setup wizard is designed to make it easy for you to set up this extension, even if you have little or no experience with the software.
To open the Discrete Manufacturing Setup Wizard
The Discrete Manufacturing Setup Wizard can be accessed in two ways:
- Assisted Setup page
- Choose the icon, enter Assisted Setup, and then choose the related link.
- In the Set up your company section, choose the Set up COSMO Discrete Manufacturing title. Alternatively, choose the line and then choose Actions > Start Setup.
- Note that if the setup wizard has been run, the Completed checkbox will be selected on the line.
- Configure to Order Setup page
- Choose the icon, enter Configure to Order Setup, and then choose the related link.
- On the Actions menu, choose Functions > Start Setup Wizard.
The setup wizard can be used to create a default setup – which can also be done automatically using the Set Standard Setup action from the Configure to Order Setup page – if the step in the wizard has a Default button. Each step will instruct whether defaults are possible or manual entries are required.
To update any settings, use the Back or Next buttons.
Step 1: Set up No. Series for Checklists
The Discrete Manufacturing Setup Wizard opens with the first step of the setup process, which sets up the number series relating to the Checklists.
- Add the number series either by choosing the:
- drop-down arrows to search for an existing number series or create new ones.
- Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.
Step 2: Set up No. Series for different documents
This step sets up number series for the different types of documents used in COSMO Discrete Manufacturing.
- Add the number series either by choosing the:
- drop-down arrows to search for an existing number series or create new ones.
- Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.
Step 3: Set up translation functionality for Checklists
This step sets up the translation functionality used with checklists.
- In the New Translation field, add the number series either by choosing the:
- drop-down arrow to search for an existing number series or create a new one.
- Default button to use the standard setup.
- In the Alternative Language field, choose the drop-down arrow to select the language that will be used if a selected language does not offer translated text.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 4: Set up the visibility and behavior of COSMO Discrete Manufacturing
This step sets up whether COSMO Discrete Manufacturing features are visible as well as defines the behaviors of some general features.
- Turn on the Activate Appl. Area toggle to make the features of COSMO Discrete Manufacturing visible in other pages. Note that the Experience field must be set to Premium in the Company Information page.
- Turn on the toggles of the other fields as needed or choose the Default button to apply the default settings.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 5: Set up the Supply Planning and Service features
This step sets up features used with Supply Planning and Service.
- Turn on the toggles of the other fields as needed or choose the Default button to apply the default settings.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 6: Manually select posting groups for Make-or-Buy functionality
This step defines the inventory posting groups that will be used for the Make-or-Buy function. Using the Default button is not possible in this step.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrow to search for an existing Inventory Posting Group create a new one. Hover over each field to read a short description.
- Choose the Next button.
Step 7: Set up the KANBAN functionality
This step sets up the general settings for working with the KANBAN functionality.
- In the Purchase and Prod. Order fields, choose the drop-down arrow to select how to create the purchase documents and the type of production order. Depending on the selections in these fields, the related fields may become available to select additional options. Alternatively, choose the Default button to apply the default settings.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 8: Set up specifications for order-related BOMs
This step sets up number series as well as general settings for working with construction orders.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows or toggles to select the proper number series or setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 9: Set up the Create Items and BOMs function
This step defines the general settings for using the Create Items and BOMs function in sales and construction.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows or toggles to select the proper number series or setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 10: Set up the Enclosure Management functionality for subcontracting
This step defines the general settings for using the Enclosure Management functionality.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows or toggles to select the proper setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 11: Set up specifications for the creation of production orders and production structures
This step defines the general settings for working with production orders/structures.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows or toggles to select the proper setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 12: Set up the variables used with configuring dynamic BOMs
This step defines the special variables that are used with configuring Dynamic BOMs.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows to select the proper setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 13: Set up the variables used with transferring values to BOM lines and production orders
This step defines the variables that are used to transfer values from these Attributes (DM) to fields in the BOM line and production order.
- In each field, choose the drop-down arrows to select the proper setting, or choose the Default button to use the standard setup.
- Choose the Next button.

Step 14: Create default number series and BOM/Checklist types
This step creates the number series for prototype items, default BOM Types for Master BOMs, and default types for Checklists.
- Turn on the toggle for any of the settings to be created automatically. Hover over each field to read a short description.
- Choose the Create button to create the selected options.
- A message opens stating what was created and if BOM/Checklist Types, how many were created. Choose the OK button to close the message.
Finish the setup
Once all settings are defined, choose the Finish button. The Discrete Manufacturing Setup Wizard closes. If opened from the Assisted Setup page, the Completed checkbox is selected on the line.
