Planning Pool
The Planning Pool provides an overview of all production orders, sorted by the sequence work center number. The Planning Pool page is accessed using Tell Me. Choose the icon, enter Planning Pool, and then choose the related link.
General Section
In the General section, you can set several filters that affect the production orders listed on the lines. In these filters, wild cards can be used, for example, Item Filter = P* means that all items beginning with the letter P will be displayed.
Method of Production Filter
The Method of Production Filter field on the Planning Pool page allows you to filter planning lines by the method of production, which is specified on the item cards. This filter helps separate production orders from the different production areas.
Lines
The lines contain all the production orders sorted by the sequence work center number. In addition, further informational fields can be displayed using the Personalize function.
Each line also contains the DC field that is used with Data Control filtering (see Data Controls). This field is visible if a Condition is entered in the Data Control section.
Note
The availability calculation is performed for each component of each production order line. To reduce a possible impact to performance, the Components Available field is calculated only if it is visible in the lines.
Home Menu
The actions on the Home menu relate to the selected Planning Pool line. Each action is described in the following sections.
Reverse
This function reverses planned production orders. The production order is moved to the end of the sequence in the work center and then all other planned production orders are rescheduled.
Note
During the Reverse process, planned maintenance-/setup jobs are deleted.
Change Work Center
This function changes the work center on a sequence order. Initially, a list of all sequence work centers is displayed in the Work Centers page.
In this page, select the work center to where the current production order in the sequence planning is moved. After choosing the OK button, a message opens asking whether to change the work center on the production line.
After accepting the message, the production order line is moved to the new work center. The production orders of the current work center will be re-scheduled.
During the work center change, all current production rates are considered. If the new item/work center combination has different production rates, they are used and stored in the routing sheet.
The work center is also changed in the routing sheet.
In addition to the production rates, the work center costs are updated.
Change Status
This standard manufacturing function in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is used in the Planning Pool to change the status of one or more production orders. To change several production orders, each must have the same status. Various orders can be selected by choosing the line while pressing the CTRL key.
Select the relevant status (to which the production order(s) is to be assigned) and the appropriate Posting Date.
To update the unit cost of the item that is produced, turn on the Update Unit Cost toggle. The unit cost of the item will also be updated in any production orders or sales orders for which this item has been reserved.
Statistics
This function displays the statistics for the selected work center.
Sequence Planning
This function opens the Sequence Planning page. If the selected line contains a sequence work center, this work center will be the selected line in the Sequence Planning page.
Components Planning Pool
This function opens the Components Planning Pool page, where the availability of components can also be checked in the planning pool (see Components Planning Pool).
Production Journal
The production journal is standard manufacturing functionality in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central but has been enhanced with some COSMO Process Manufacturing features. For more information about the COSMO Process Manufacturing-related functionality, see Production Journal.
For more information about the standard Production Journal functionality, refer to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Help.
Reports Menu
The Print action on the Reports menu generates a production overview from the planning pool.
Actions Menu
The Actions menu contains actions relating to the selected Planning Pool line. Each action is explained in the following sections.
Change Tool
Generally, the change of tools is like the change of a work center. A list of available tools that can be changed is displayed. During the change process, the tool is changed in the routing sheet and new costs and production rates are recalculated.
Change Insert
Generally, the change of inserts is like the change of a work center or tool. A list of available inserts that can be changed is displayed. During the change process, the insert is changed in the routing sheet and new costs and production rates are recalculated.
Split Prod. Order Line
This function splits production order lines into multiple production orders and approaches (see Split Production Orders).
Combine Prod. Order Line
This function combines several production orders into one production order (see Combine Production Orders).
Related Menu
The Related menu contains the Work Ctr. and Line menus. In the following sections, each COSMO Process Manufacturing page is described in detail while standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central pages are not; refer to the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Help for additional information about standard pages.
Work Center Menu
The actions in the Work Ctr. menu relate to the work center selected on the General section of the Planning Pool page.
Action | Description |
---|---|
List | Displays a list of all work centers. |
Card | Displays the card of the selected work center. For more information, see Capacities. NOTE: A card will only open if there is a work center sequence on the line. |
Capacity Ledger Entries | Displays the capacity ledger entries for the selected work center. Capacity ledger entries are created if capacity consumption is entered for a production order. They are created in time units (run time, stop time, setup time) or in quantities (scrap quantity, output quantity). |
Dimensions | Displays the dimensions assigned to the selected work center. |
Manufacturing Dimensions | Displays the default manufacturing dimensions for the selected work center (see Manufacturing Dimensions). Manufacturing dimensions are used as global and shortcut dimensions just like the standard dimensions. Manufacturing dimensions can be added to items, work centers, tools, inserts and production order lines. The global and shortcut dimensions for each type can be specified in the manufacturing dimension setup. |
Planning Dimensions | Planning dimensions are used to better handle sequence planning. For example, based on planning dimension priorities of color, machines will be sequences so lighter colors are processed first, followed by darker colors (see Manufacturing Dimensions with Sequence Work Centers). As illustrated in the above screen shot, when the Priority Planning function is run, the Sequence Planning lines will be re-sorted by due date, then color and so on (see Optimize Planning Functions in Sequence Planning). |
Comments | Displays comments for the selected work center. Comments are for internal use only; they are not used on any documents. |
Load | Contains the List action, which opens the Work Center Load page, which provides an overview of availability at the selected work center. |
Text Module | If you have the integration with Advanced Manufacturing Suite (AMS), this action is available. For more information, see Line text in Planning Pool / Sequence Planning. |
Line Menu
The actions in the Line menu relate to the selected line and are described in the following table.
Action | Description |
---|---|
Prod. Order | Opens the Production Order of the selected production order line. |
Item Availability by | Contains a list with the following options: Event, Period, Variant, Location, and BOM Level. These options check the availability of the item that is currently produced. |
Reservation Entries | Opens the Reservation Entries page, which contains one entry for each manually or automatically created reservation of the current production order line. |
Dimensions | When a production order, a production order line, or a production order component is created, document dimension values can be added that can be used later in the analysis. For two shortcut dimensions, the dimension values may be entered directly in a production order, a production order line, or a production order component. Values for dimensions that are not available in a production order, a production order line, or a production order component, can be entered in this page. |
Manufacturing Dimensions | On creation of production order lines, the default manufacturing dimensions from the item are transferred to the production order line. If the production order lines are sequence planned, the default manufacturing dimensions from the possibly existing sequence work center, tool or insert are transferred to the production order line as well. The Priority field in the Manufacturing Dimension Setup page defines the order of the different default manufacturing dimensions to transfer (see Manufacturing Dimension Priority). Example The item and the work center in a production order line have the same default manufacturing dimension. Only the default manufacturing dimension value of the type with the highest priority in the manufacturing dimension setup is transferred to the production order line. |
Routing | Opens the Prod. Order Routing page for the selected production order line, where you can enter routing sheets before or after a resource sequence. |
Components | Opens the Prod. Order Components page, where substitution items can be checked and replaced, and new components for the production order can be entered manually. |
Item Tracking Lines | Opens the Item Tracking Lines page, used to track planned items that are Lot No. / Serial No. tracked. |
Show used Work Center Production Rate | Opens the Work Center Prod. Rate Card page for planned production order lines to show the Work Center Production Rates used to calculate the setup and run times of a production order routing line. If this function is run on a planning line without a Work Center Production Rate, a message will open. |
Calculation | Contains the Calculation (Expected) and Calculation (Actual) options. For more information, see Integration of COSMO Calculation. |
