Items and Production Structures from Configurations

Items and Production Structures can be created from the Sales Order line, Document BOM line, and the Construction Order header or line for all substructures using the Create Items & BOMs function.

With this function, a new item gets created as a copy of the existing item, which replaces that item in the Sales Order line, Document BOM line, or Construction Order header/line. Concurrently, a new Production Structure gets created, and depending on the setup in the Configure to Order Setup page, can be automatically certified with a new Routing/Production BOM.

The settings for the Create Items & BOMs function are defined in the Production Structure No. field on the Process Manufacturing Setup page and the defaults in the Construction FastTab in the Configure to Order Setup page.

Based on these settings, when a production structure is created using the Create Items and BOMs function either automatically or from the request page, a new item and production structure is created. The results of creating the production structures from the documents are described in the following table.

Document	Header/Line	Result
Construction Order	Header	The Item No. field is updated with the new item in the General FastTab and with new item(s) in the No. field in assembly item lines. Production Structures are created and linked to the items in the Production Structure No. field.
	Line	The No. field is updated with the new item number in the selected line and substructure line(s). Production Structures are created and linked to the items in the Production Structure No. field.
Document BOM	Line	The No. field is updated with the new item number in the selected line and substructure line(s). Production Structures are created and linked to the items in the Production Structure No. field.
Sales Order	Line	The No. field is updated with the new item in the Sales Order line and in the Document BOM's assembly item lines. Production Structures are created and linked to the items in the Production Structure No. field.

Note

This function cannot be used if a Production Structure already exists for the item in the Sales Order line, Document BOM line, or Construction Order header or line.

Standard Business Process

Typically, a Checklist Template and Master BOM have been set up for an item configuration (typically a dummy item). When this item is entered in a Sales Quote, the standard COSMO Discrete Manufacturing processes are performed: the Checklist is completed, the Document BOM is created and calculations for pricing are made. Once the customer accepts the pricing, an order is created.

If this item configuration needs to be produced using COSMO Process Manufacturing functionalities, the Create Items & BOMs function is run, a new Item is created along with a new Production Structure, and the dummy item in the sales line is replaced with the new item. At this point, all further processing is managed through COSMO Process Manufacturing, such as the definition of recipes within the Production Structure, the final creation of the Routing and Production BOM, and the production of the item.

It is also possible to create an Item and Production Structure for a manually created Document BOM or Construction BOM using the Create Items & BOMs function.
