Synchronization Setup
The setup for synchronizing attributes and manufacturing dimensions occurs in the Variable/Attribute Types page. Linked attributes and manufacturing dimensions are managed in the Item Card and Item Variants pages.
Variable/Attributes Types
The fields used for synchronizing attributes and manufacturing dimensions in the Variable/Attributes Types page are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Manufacturing Dimension Code | Indicates the linked code to the attribute. This field can be populated manually or automatically using the Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's action on the Actions menu. |
Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active | Determines if the manufacturing dimension and attribute are synchronized. If this checkbox is selected after linking, then changes to the attribute are made automatically to the manufacturing dimension, and vice versa. To stop synchronization, clear this checkbox. NOTE: Selecting this checkbox does not perform a mass update. Existing data must be synchronized by using the Sync. Master Data action on the Actions menu. |
Mfg. Dim. Sync. in Orders | Indicates if the manufacturing dimension are synchronized with the Attributes (DM) in the Document BOMs and Construction Orders. If this checkbox is selected after linking, then changes to the attribute are made automatically to the manufacturing dimension, and vice versa. For more information, see Transfer Attributes from Master BOMs to Document BOMs and Construction Orders. |
Used in Attributes | Indicates the number of items or item variants that have this attribute. Choose the value in the field to open the Attribute Values page to view all of the values. Use the Personalize function to show the No. field, which indicates the item that the attribute is assigned to. |
Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's | Indicates the number of items or item variants that have this manufacturing dimension. Choose the value in the field to open the Default Mfg. Dimensions page to view all of the values. Use the Personalize function to show the No. field, which indicates the item that the dimension is assigned to. |
The Actions menu contains two actions that are used for synchronizing attributes and manufacturing dimensions. Each is described in the following table.
Action | Description |
---|---|
Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's | Links all attributes with the corresponding manufacturing dimensions if the codes are the same; e.g., "COLOR" attribute and "COLOR" manufacturing dimension. When this action is run, a message opens asking to confirm that the Manufacturing Dimension Code should be filled automatically. A message then opens after the process finishes with the number of records that were synchronized. The Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field is automatically updated. |
Sync. Master Data | Synchronizes the attributes with the manufacturing dimensions, or vice versa, for all Items and Item Variants, for lines with the Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active checkbox selected. A dialog box opens asking to synchronize From "Attribute" to "Default Mfg. Dimension" or From "Default Mfg. Dimension" to "Attribute". The selection to choose depends on where more information exists: either in the attributes or manufacturing dimensions. Another dialog box opens to confirm the synchronization, which will overwrite any existing, corresponding values. For example, an item has a "COLOR" attribute of BLACK and a "COLOR" manufacturing dimension of BLUE. Once linked and the From "Default Mfg. Dimension" to "Attribute" option is chosen, the value of the attribute (BLACK) will be overwitten with the value from the manufacturing dimension (BLUE). After the process finishes, the Used in Attributes or Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field is updated to reflect the changes. By running this action, any items/item variants with synchronized manufacturing dimensions now have an attribute with the same value, and vice versa. Items/item variants that do not have existing attributes or manufacturing dimensions when the Sync. Master Data function is run are handled manually in the Item Card or Item Variants page. In either case, the synchronized attributes and manufacturing dimensions can be adjusted per item/item variant. For more information, see Item and Item Variants. |
To set up an attribute for synchronization
Choose the icon, enter Variables/Attriubute Types, and then choose the related link.
Locate the attribute to synchronize with manufacturing dimensions.
In the Manufacturing Dimension Code field, enter the relevant manufacturing dimension.
The Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field is automatically updated with the number of existing default manufacturing dimensions assigned to items (in the Default Mfg. Dimensions page, use the Personalize function to show the item's No. field).Tip
Alternatively, you can use the Auto Fill Mfg. Dim's action on the Actions menu to fill in the Manufacturing Dimension Code field on all attributes for which the codes are the same. Note that you can always delete the value in the Manufacturing Dimension Code field or keep the Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active checkbox empty for any that you do not want to synchronize.
Select the Mfg. Dim. Sync. Active checkbox for the attribute to turn on synchronization with manufacturing dimensions.
On the Actions menu, choose the Sync. Master Data action to synchronize the Attributes with the Manufacturing Dimensions, or vice versa, for all Items and Item Variants.
In the dialog box, choose the option where more information exists (refer to the Used in Attributes and Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's fields):
- If attributes have been set up on most items, and manufacturing dimensions are new, then use the From "Attribute" to "Default Mfg. Dimension" option.
- If manufacturing dimensions have been set up on most items, and attributes are new, then use the From "Default Mfg. Dimension" to "Attribute" option.
Accept the confirmation message to overwrite any existing values. After the process finishes, the Used in Attributes or Used in Def.-Mfg.-Dim's field is updated accordingly. It's possible that the values will be the same or could be different if there were existing attributes or manufacturing dimensions prior to synchronization.
Items and Item Variants
Once the attributes and manufacturing dimensions are linked, values can be added or modified in the Attributes (DM) or Manufacturing Dimensions on the Item Card or Item Variants page.
Items
In the Item Card, choose the Related menu and then one of the following:
- On the Item menu, choose the Attributes (DM) action to open the Attribute Values page.
- On the Bill of Materials menu, choose Production > Manufacturing Dimensions to open the Default Mfg. Dimensions page.
When the linked attributes/manufacturing dimensions that are set for synchronization are added, modified, or deleted in either the Attribute Values page or Default Mfg. Dimensions page, the other will be updated accordingly.
Attributes and Manufacturing Dimensions that are not synchronized can be added to either page and will not be displayed in the other.
Item Variants
In the Item Variants page, both Attributes (DM) and Manufacturing Dimensions are accessible on the Related menu. The same process described for Items is used for Item Variants.
