Transfer Attributes from Master BOMs to Document BOMs and Construction Orders
Synchronized attributes from master BOMs can be transferred to the manufacturing dimensions in document BOMs and construction orders and from the sales line to the construction order header either automatically or manually when the document BOM and/or construction order is created.
Setup
Whether and how the transfer occurs depends on settings in the Variable/Attribute Types and Configure to Order Setup pages.
The Mfg. Dim. Sync. in Orders field in the Variable/Attribute Types page determines whether the synchronized attributes are transferred to the manufacturing dimensions in the document BOM and construction order header/lines.
- If this checkbox isn't selected for an attribute, then no synchronization and, therefore, no transfer occurs.
- If the checkbox is selected, the attribute(s) will be transferred to the manufacturing dimension(s) in the:
- Document BOM automatically or manually via the Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims ... actions to update all lines or just the selected line.
- Construction Order header and lines automatically or manually via the Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims ... action to update just the header or the header and lines, and the lines can be updated via the Synchronize Manufacturing Dimensions by Attributes action on the lines (if not run from the header).
The Auto. Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dimensions field in Configure to Order Setup determines whether the attributes and manufacturing dimensions are synchronized automatically or manually.
Note
Manufacturing dimensions can be shown directly in the document BOM and Construction Order lines (see Manufacturing Dimensions in Document BOMs and Construction Orders).
Synchronization in Document BOM
The synchronization in the document BOM is specific to the item in the master BOM and in the document BOM. The Sync Attributes to Mfg. Dims (all Lines) and Sync Attributes to Mfg. Dims (curr. Line) actions are accessible on the Related menu.
Example
The following example describes the synchronization from an item in a master BOM to a document BOM. Automatic synchronization is not enabled in Configure to Order Setup.
The "ITEM_COLOR" attribute has been synchronized with the "COLOR" manufacturing dimension for document BOMs and construction orders. An item in a Master BOM line has an "ITEM_COLOR" attribute of BLUE.
You create a sales order for the production item attached to the Master BOM. After updating the checklist and creating the Document BOM, you select the item with the color and open the attributes (Related menu > Attributes (DM)) where you see that the "ITEM_COLOR" = BLUE attribute is listed in the Document BOM Attributes page. Next you open the manufacturing dimensions (Related menu > Manufacturing Dimensions), where you see that there is no COLOR dimension.
On the Actions menu, you choose Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (curr. Line) and then open the Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page again. Now you see that the "COLOR" = BLUE dimension is listed.
If the automatic synchronization had been enabled, then the "COLOR" = BLUE dimension would have been transferred to the Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page when the Document BOM was created.
Synchronization in Construction Order Header/Lines
The synchronization in the construction order has two parts:
- the header is based on attributes from the sales line.
- the line(s) are based on attributes from the master BOM.
The header actions Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (excl. Lines) and Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (incl. Lines) are accessible on the Actions menu. The line action Synchronize Manufacturing Dimension by Attributes is accessible from the Line menu on the Lines FastTab.
Example
The following example describes the synchronization from an item in a master BOM to a construction order as well as from an attribute in the sales order line. Automatic synchronization is not enabled in Configure to Order Setup and the Color Code field (manufacturing dimension) has been added to the construction order lines via the Personalize function.
The "ITEM_COLOR" attribute has been synchronized with the "COLOR" manufacturing dimension. A production item has an "ITEM_COLOR" attribute of BLACK.
The "ITEM_COLOR" attribute has also been synchronized with the "COLOR" manufacturing dimension for document BOMs and construction orders. An item in a Master BOM line has an "ITEM_COLOR" attribute of BLUE. This Master BOM is assigned to the production item.
You create a sales order for the production item. After updating the checklist you create the construction order and request the BOM.
To view the header attributes, you open the Construction Attributes page (Related menu > Construction > Attributes (DM)) and see that the "ITEM_COLOR" = BLACK attribute is listed. You then open the Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page (Related menu > Construction > Manufacturing Dimensions) and see that there is no "COLOR" dimension.
You then check the construction order line and see that the Color Code field is empty, which would display the "COLOR" manufacturing dimension value if the synchronization had happened. With the relevant line selected, you open the Construction Attributes page (Lines FastTab > Line > Attributes (DM)) and see that the "ITEM_COLOR" = BLUE attribute is listed.
Instead of synchronizing the attributes and manufacturing dimensions on the header and lines separately, you run the Sync. Attributes to Mfg. Dims (incl. Lines) action (Actions menu > Functions).
You notice that the Color Code field on the line is updated with the BLUE dimension (from "COLOR" = BLUE). You again open the header attributes and see that the "COLOR" = BLACK dimension is listed.
If the automatic synchronization had been enabled, then the "COLOR" = BLACK dimension would have been transferred to the header Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page, and the "COLOR" = BLUE would have been transferred to the lines Mfg. Dimension Set Entries page and the Color Code field when the Construction Order was created.
