Extraordinary Capacity
Manufacturers operate in a dynamic environment. Order quantities rise and fall, weekend shift needs flexible scheduling. With the Extraordinary Capacity feature in COSMO Process Manufacturing, you are able to add capacity to a calendar for a onetime event.
In standard Business Central, calendar entries are calculated based on shop calendar working days under consideration of work center absence and shop calendar holidays. The Extraordinary Capacity feature allows you to add additional calendar entries for non-working days or an additional working shift for specific days based on the following:
- Extraordinary capacity is added to work or machine center calendar entries when the Calculate Work Center Calendar and Calculate Machine Center Calendar functions are run.
- If extraordinary capacity is added to calendar entries, the Updated checkbox is selected in the Extraordinary Capacity line.
- If extraordinary capacity is changed, the respective calendar entry is deleted, and the Updated checkbox is cleared in Extraordinary Capacity line.
- Extraordinary capacity considers absence entries and shop calendar holidays.
Additionally, extraordinary capacities can be created for work- or machine centers based on daily, weekly, or monthly recurrence patterns.

Recurring Extraordinary Capacity

Recurring Extraordinary Capacity Page
The Recurring Extraordinary Capacity page is accessible by choosing Related menu > Planning on the following pages:
- Machine Center Card/List
- Machine Center Calendar Matrix
- Work Center Card/List
- Work Center Calendar Matrix
- Insert Work Center Card/List

A list of all Recurring Extraordinary Capacities can be accessed using the Tell Me feature.
Set Up Recurring Extraordinary Capacity
On the Recurring Extraordinary Capacities page for the relevant work center, choose the New action. The general information from the work center card is transferred to the fields in the Capacity FastTab.
In the Recurrence Pattern FastTab, choose the type (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly) in the Recurrence field and the start/end times that the extraordinary capacity is to be created recurrently. The next FastTab dynamically changes to Daily, Weekly, or Monthly accordingly:
FastTab | Field | Description |
---|---|---|
Daily | Frequency | Specifies if the daily extraordinary capacities are created only Monday – Friday (Weekday) or every day (Daily). |
Weekly | Monday .. Sunday | Specifies the days that are included in the weekly extraordinary capacity creation, for example, Monday/Wednesday/Friday. |
Monthly | Recurrence Day | Specifies that the extraordinary capacities are created on the First Workday, Last Workday, or on a specific date of the month (Custom). |
Date of Month | Specifies the date of the month to create capacities if Custom is selected in the Recurrence Day field. |
The fields in the Range of Recurrence FastTab specify the starting date of the extraordinary capacity creation. The length of time is defined by the Range Type field; therefore, if set to:
- End By, then specify the date in the Ending Date field.
- End After, then specify how often the recurrence occurs in the No. of Occurrences field.
Create Extraordinary Capacity Entries
Before creating the extraordinary capacity entries, you can choose the Preview action to open the Recurring Extraordinary Capacities Preview page, which shows the extraordinary capacity to be created based on the recurrence settings.
You can apply the information in the Recurring Extraordinary Capacities Preview page or from the Recurring Extraordinary Capacity page by choosing the Apply action. This creates the Extraordinary Capacity Entries as well as makes the record non-editable.
In the Extraordinary Capacity page, the Recurring Extraordinary Capacity field is set to Yes if the entries were created from recurring extraordinary capacity. You can choose the Yes value to open the Recurring Extraordinary Capacity page. From the Recurring Extraordinary Capacity page you can access the Extraordinary Capacity page from the Related menu.
Existing Extraordinary Capacity Entries
A message opens if extraordinary capacity entries already exist for one of the durations that should be created by the recurring extraordinary capacity.
Duplicates (same date, starting and ending time) are skipped if the recurring extraordinary capacity is applied. In the Recurring Extraordinary Capacities Preview page, duplicates are shown with red text.
Reopen Extraordinary Capacity
To reopen the recurring extraordinary capacity to change it after application, choose the Reopen action. A message will open regarding the existing entries and must be confirmed.
Delete Existing Extraordinary Capacity Entries
If the recurring extraordinary capacity is applied and extraordinary capacity entries already exist, the existing extraordinary capacity entries will be deleted and recreated.
If a recurring extraordinary capacity record with created extraordinary capacity entries is deleted, a message opens asking if the entries should be kept:
- No: extraordinary capacity entries are deleted.
- Yes: extraordinary capacity entries remain and the relation to the recurring extraordinary capacity is removed.
