Recipes
Each recipe is contained in the Production BOM page. In this page, you can maintain the percentage of the division of ingredients (raw materials) for the manufactured items. A filtered list of recipes can be accessed using Tell Me by entering Recipes.
Production BOM Page for Recipes
The fields and actions on the Production BOM page for recipes are described in the following sections.
General FastTab
The fields on this FastTab are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
No. | Unique identifier for the recipe. |
Description | Description of the recipe. |
Unit of Measure Code | Unit of measure to which the recipe refers. |
Status | Indicates the current processing state of the recipe. The options are: - New: The recipe is new. - Certified: The recipe is certified and ready for use. - Under Development: The recipe is in progress. - Closed: The recipe has been closed. |
Search Name | Populated from the Description field, can be modified as needed without affecting the Description field. |
Version Nos. | Version number series to which the recipe versions refers. |
Active Version | Displays the number of the active recipe version, if one exists. |
Last Date Modified | Date the production structure was last modified. |
Production BOM Type | Indicates if the Production BOM is a Recipe or not. Used for filtering purposes. |
Recipe Comparison Group Code | Specifies a filter for comparison and assigns a structure to a group that matches the filter. It determines which Production BOMs/Production BOM Versions will be used for comparison in the Matrix FastTab of the Recipe Comparison Matrix page (see Recipe Comparison Matrix, Filter FastTab). |
Max. Incorporation % | Defines a limited quantity of incorporation item in this recipe that is created from a production structure. This field contains the maximum percent share of incorporation item relating to the entire recipe. |
Lines FastTab
In the recipe line, the Item Type field distinguishes between:
- Share of Recipe – an item entered in percent or proportion.
- Item – an item that can be entered in component-value and unit of measure.
Due to this, it is possible to maintain in the recipe not only items with percentages but also to enter, for example, the packaging.
Recipe lines can be calculated using the following methods:
- Share % – total shares must equal 100 percent.
- Shares – total share amounts must equal 100 and automatically calculate the percentage in the Share % field when the recipe is certified.
- Quantity per – absolute values.
Component Menu
On the Lines FastTab, choose the Component menu to access actions specific to the recipe line.
Action | Description |
---|---|
Comments | Used to add comments specific to the selected recipe line. |
Where-Used | Shows where the selected recipe line is used in a production structure. |
Ingredients | Opens the Production BOM Line Ingredients page for recipe lines with ingredients (see Ingredients Management). |
Line Texts | If you have the integration with Advanced Manufacturing Suite (AMS), this action is available. For more information, see Line text in production structures, recipes, and routings. |
Home Menu
The actions on the Home menu are described in the following table.
Action | Description |
---|---|
Copy BOM | Copies lines from existing production BOMs into the current production BOM. When complete, all necessary changes can be made. |
Versions | Opens the list of recipe versions for the selected recipe. Versions allow you to create different versions of a recipe which is useful if changes should be documented. Every version of the recipe can have a unique start date in the header and a unique start and end date in the lines. All production orders that start after the start date of a recipe are linked to the corresponding version of the recipe. It is possible to create two versions of one recipe with the same start date. In this case, the correct version can be chosen over the production order lines. |
Matrix per Version | Opens the Prod. BOM Matrix per Version page, which enables you to compare all versions of a recipe. This page provides an overview of all components on one or more layers and shows the percentile shares of recipe components. |
Where-used | Shows where a recipe is used in a production structure. Single and multilevel features are helpful for maintenance or troubleshooting. The multilevel feature displays all effected BOMs. |
Recipe Comparison | Opens the Recipe Comparison page (see Recipe Comparison). |
Recipe Search | Opens the Recipe Search page (see Recipe Search). |
Prod. BOM Menu
The Comments action on the Prod. BOM menu displays comments for the selected recipe. Comments are for internal use only; they are not used on any documents.
Related Menu
Choose the Related menu to access actions specific to the entire recipe.
Action | Description |
---|---|
Ingredients | Opens the Production BOM Header Ingredients page, which displays the sum of recipe ingredients (see Ingredients Management). |
Incorporation Items | Allows you to determine the incorporation items for this recipe (see Incorporation). |
Multilevel Recipes
In the production structures, different items or recipe shares can be entered or a new main recipe can be added. If you enter a recipe as the main or base recipe, it can be selected in the production structure.
If the production structure is used in production, the lines of the main recipe are transferred to the production order component lines and are divided accordingly.
This makes it possible to use a main recipe that is only a part of an overall recipe.
For example, an overall recipe has a main recipe of 90% and a color share of 10%. Therefore, the components of the main recipe are divided to 90% of the entire recipe and the color share holds the remaining 10%.
Using a main recipe is helpful because it only needs to be configured once. For example, if the raw materials change, they are used in all new production orders.
Change Recipe
With the Change Production BOM No. function, the used production BOM for released production orders can be changed even if a finished quantity was posted.
On the Lines FastTab, choose Line > Change Production BOM No. The Production BOMs page opens, from which a new production BOM can be selected.
Note
To run the Change Production BOM No. function, turn on the Allow Product Design Change in Prod. Order Line toggle in the Process Manufacturing Setup page.
After selecting the new production BOM, the quantity of the existing production order line is set to the finished quantity and a new production order line is added and calculated.
The order tracking of the remaining quantity is transferred to the new production order line. Existing reservations attached to the old production order components are transferred.
Adjust Component Quantities for Recipe Shares
After a production order is created from a recipe, it may be necessary to adjust the component quantities. In COSMO Process Manufacturing, you can do this using the Recipe Share and Share % fields in the Prod. Order Components page. The Recipe Share field allows a Share % to be entered in the Prod. Order Component line.
You can change the quantity of a production order component by editing the value in the Quantity per field. However, if this component uses recipe shares, changing the quantity sets the Share % field to 0 and clears the Recipe Share checkbox, thus recipe shares are no longer used. Clearing the Recipe Share checkbox also sets the Share % field to 0 but the calculated Quantity per value does not change.
To adjust the component quantity based on a recipe share, ensure that the Recipe Share checkbox is selected and then change the value in the Share % field. The value in the Quantity per field is updated accordingly.
Note
After making changes or adding recipe shares, there is no check if the total Share % of all Prod. Order Component lines equals 100.
Item Availability by BOM Level with Recipes
The Item Availability by BOM Level page includes recipes and master recipes as BOM structures. Any item that has a BOM structure, including recipe or main recipe, will be displayed as a collapsible line. This line can be expanded to show the underlying components and lower-level sub-assemblies/recipes with their own BOMs/recipes.
The availability numbers for BOM items indicate how many units of a parent can be made based on the availability of child items on underlying lines, including recipes and master recipes. The bottleneck warning is calculated and visualized for both recipes and main recipes.
