Automatic Configuration
Instead of completing separate steps starting with the checklist and ending with the production order creation, you can use processes defined on a checklist to automatically:
- Calculate and transfer sales price on closing the document checklist
- Create Document BOM with a single function from the sales line
- Create a Document BOM Calculation, update values and transfer prices to the sales line with a single function from the sales line
- Transfer Document BOM lines to the sales line with a single function from the sales line
- Create Production Order with a single function from the sales order line
Setup
Fields in the Checklist Template, Configure to Order Setup, and Item Card pages must be set to allow the automated processes.
Checklist Template
The automation fields in the General FastTab of the Checklist Template are described in the following table.

Auto. Transfer Lines to Sales Document | Determines whether lines in the Document BOM that are designated as Transfer to Sales Document will be automatically transferred to the sales document when the Run Configuration Automatically function is run. This toggle can only be turned on if the Auto. Create Document BOM toggle is turned on. |

Auto. Create Prod. Order | Determines whether a production order is created for the Sales Order line when the Run Configuration Automatically function is run. The type of production order is defined in the Configure to Order Setup page. Production Orders can only be created automatically from the Sales Order line and only if there are no existing production orders. |
These fields are available and editable in the Document Checklists. Use the Show more action to access the fields in both the Checklist Template and Document Checklist.
Configure to Order Setup
In the Configure to Order Setup page, you must define which type of production order will be created automatically when the Run Configuration Automatically function is run from the Sales Order line.
On the Manufacturing FastTab, choose either Planned, Firm Planned, or Released in the Default Prod. Order Status field.
Item Card
In the Item Card, a certified Calculation Schedule must be assigned in the Standard Calc. Schedule No. field for any items that will create a Document BOM Calculation when the Run Configuration Automatically function is run from the sales line.
Run automated processes
In this section, each automated process is described in more detail.
Automatically Calculate Price
The Auto. Calculate Price function combines the Calculate Price and Transfer Unit Price functions in the Document Checklist into one process. Upon closing the Document Checklist, the price is calculated and then a message opens asking if you want to transfer the price to the sales line, which gives you the ability to calculate the price with or without transfer to the sales line.
Note
If the Auto. Create Calculation toggle is turned on and the Run Configuration Automatically function is run, the price on the sales line will be updated with the price from the Document BOM Calculation.
Automatically Create Document BOM
The Auto. Create Document BOM function combines the steps of creating and requesting the Document BOM. As long as there is only one Master BOM assigned to the item and no Document BOM exists for the sales line, the Document BOM will be created when the Run Configuration Automatically function is run.
Automatically Create Calculation
The Auto. Create Calculation function combines the steps of creating the Document BOM Calculation, certifying the calculation, updating the values, and transferring the calculated price to the sales line. The item for which the calculation is created must have a certified Calculation Schedule assigned in the Item Card.
Automatically Transfer Lines to Sales Document
The Auto. Transfer Lines to Sales Document function works with the Auto. Create Document BOM function so that you do not need to open the Document BOM to transfer the designated Document BOM lines to the sales lines. For more information, see Transfer Lines to Sales Documents.
Automatically Create Production Order
The Auto. Create Production Order function combines the steps of creating the production order, releasing unreleased lines, choosing the type of production order, and refreshing the production order. This process also includes the creation of separate production orders if specified in the Document BOM. As long as no production orders exist for the line and you are creating the type of production order set as the default, this is an ideal option for expediting the creation process.
Run Configuration Automatically
When the Run Configuration Automatically function is run from the sales line, each process described above is run except for the calculation/transfer of the price because that was handled when the checklist was closed. Therefore, as long as the requirements are met:
- the Document BOM is created.
- the Document BOM Calculation is created, certified/updated, and the calculated price is transferred to the sales line.
- the designated lines are transferred to the sales line.
- the specified default production order is created (if run for a sales order).
This function can be run multiple times but existing Document BOMs and Production Orders must be deleted depending on the settings in the checklist. If both a Document BOM and Production Order are set for automatic creation, and each exists for the sales line, both will need to be deleted before you can re-run the automated process. Additionally, any Document BOM lines transferred to the sales lines should be deleted as well.
