Allocate Resources to Prod. Order Operations
Based on the resource needs, an authorized user can automatically or manually assign unscheduled resources in the Prod. Order Resource Allocation page. Choose the icon, enter Prod. Order Resource Allocation, and then choose the related link.
Prod. Order Resource Allocation Page
The Prod. Order Resource Allocation page displays the demand related to a production order operation that does not have resource capacity allocation. This means that the operations have no resources with the requested skills needed at the noted time.
Bold lines represent the first resource need of the production order routing line. The non-bold lines below indicate the next resource needs of the operation.
This page is generally the same as the Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets and Prod. Order Cap. Resource Need pages in that it has FactBoxes relating to the routing line and production order line, and many of the same fields. The fields in this page are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Status | Indicates the status of the production order to which the routing has the resource needs. |
Prod. Order No. | Indicates the number of the production order to which the routing has the resource needs. |
Operation No. | Indicates which operation in the Prod. Order Routing that has the specified resource needs. |
Capacity Need Line No. | Indicates the line number of a data record in the Production Order Capacity Need table. Choose the ellipsis button to open the Production Order Capacity Need page. |
Skill Set Code | Defaults from the Prod. Order Routing Skill Set line. |

For detailed descriptions of the fields in the Production Order Routings page, see Production Order Routings.
On the Allocation menu, use the actions to process the allocations Automatically or Manually.
Choose the Shift Specification action to open the Shift Specification Lines for the selected allocation line. Choose the Remove Time Filter action to view all entries including historical needs that were not assigned a resource.
On the Related menu, use the actions to open the [..] Prod. Order, Prod. Order Routing, Prod. Order Routing Skill Sets, and Prod. Order Rtng Skill Set Entries pages for the selected allocation line.
Automatic Resource Allocation
Depending on various settings, resources are allocated automatically when a production order is calculated. The information that is displayed in this page are operations that were not managed during that process for a variety of reasons. In this page, choose the Automatically action on the Allocation menu to run the automatic resource scheduling for a single line or multiple lines.
After scheduling, all lines that have been properly scheduled with resources are removed and all others remain.
Manual Resource Allocation
When resources cannot be scheduled automatically through the production order calculation or the automatic resource scheduling process, the Manual allocation is done in the Prod. Order Routing Resources page (choose the Manually action on the Allocation menu). This page can also be opened from the Prod. Order Routing (Related > Line > Skill Sets > Resources).
The manual allocation allows a production manager to schedule a resource based on known availability and skill sets. If this is the case, the production manager needs to enter a resource in the Resource No. field.
If, however, the production manager does not know who is available with the required skills, they can choose the ellipsis button in the Resource No. field. If no suitable resources are available, a message will open with the exclusion criteria.
If resources are available, then the Skill-Based Resource List page opens.
The Skill-Based Resource List page displays the resources that are available within the required time frame with the needed skills. The Desired Skills % field indicates how strong the skill match is between the resource and the need. If the skill set is required, then the desired value must be 100% to be displayed in this page. Therefore, the Desired Skill % is a calculated mix of both desired and required skills.
The Availability % field displays the availability of the resources, which is helpful to compare with the required Attention %. In this view, a production manager can see who is available when, and with what skills.
To schedule the resource, select the line and then choose the OK button.
The scheduled resource is displayed no longer in the Prod. Order Resource Allocation page.
Allocation by Resource Rating
In Resource Scheduling, the resources are automatically and manually allocated as follows:
- Once a resource is allocated for a specific operation task time segment, it will be chosen first place for all other time segments as well, availability provided.
- In consequence, midnight switches will be covered by the same resource.
- All resources already allocated to an operation task have a higher priority than all other resources, even if the latter are better skilled.
The allocation setting is automatically defined in the Usage Rating field, which is visible in the Skill-Based Resource List page.
