Resource Scheduling Setup
For resource scheduling, work centers are created for the respective resource in addition to Resource Cards. However, the available capacity of the resource is managed by the assigned work center. The resource capacity of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is not used for resource scheduling. Before the work center is created for the respective resource, we recommend that Shift Schedules are specified for the Shop Calendars to manage rotating work schedules of employees. For more information, see Shop Calendar Shift Settings.
To use resources in manufacturing, specify which qualification and which production-specific skills the resource must have. Resource qualifications of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central are of limited use in manufacturing, therefore, the Resource Card is extended by Manufacturing Skills.
The setup for resource scheduling has two distinct yet related processes: skill proficiencies for resources and the connection of the resource to the production processes, by way of work centers. Therefore, this topic is separated by resource setup and production setup.
The following table describes a sequence of tasks, with links to the topics that describe them.
