Skill Sets
A skill set is used when setting up the operations for production to identify certain abilities that a resource must have to perform the operation. A set of skills therefore describes which skills are required and in what form. The skill set can be understood as a requirement profile that is ultimately stored during the work process.
Skill Sets Page
The Skill Sets page is accessed using Tell Me. Choose the icon, enter Skill Sets, and then choose the related link.
The fields in the Skill Sets page are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Code | Unique identifier of the skill set. |
Description | Brief description of the skill set. This description should inform a user of the requirement profile. It is therefore recommended to derive the description from the role or task description of the resource. |
Time Type | Refers to the time type in the operation and the resulting time type in the production order capacity need. Resource scheduling supports the time categories Setup and Run. If, for example, the execution of setup in an operation requires certain capabilities, then Time Type = Setup must be assigned to the skill set. |
No. of Skills | Indicates the number of skills that have been assigned to the skill set. Skills are assigned in the Skill Set Entries page. |
To define the required skills for each skill set, choose the Skills action to open the Skill Set Entries page.
Skill Set Entries
The fields in the Skill Set Entries page are described in the following table.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Type | Specifies whether the requirement refers to a Skill (basic resource qualification), a specific Work Center Group, or a Manufacturing Skill. |
Code | Defines which characteristic the requested ability should have based on the skill set selected in the Type field: - Skill: specifies the requested basic skill from the resource. - Work Center Group: specifies the requested work center group from the resource. - Manufacturing Skill: specifies the requested manufacturing skill from the resource with a more extensive specification in a code value or numeric value range. |
Priority | Specifies whether the skill is Mandatory or Desired. When resources are assigned to a capacity need, the priority determines whether only resources with this skill are allowed to perform the task or, if not available, whether other resources are allowed to be used. |
Req. Code Value | Specifies which code value is required for Type = Manufacturing Skill, if the skill has a Data Type = Code. |
Req. Num. Value From | Specifies the numeric value that is required for Type = Manufacturing Skill, if the skill has a Data Type = Integer or Decimal. The value entered in this field defines the lowest value of the value range. The resources searched for must have entered this value or a higher value in the corresponding Manufacturing Skill. |
Req. Num. Value To | Specifies the numeric value that is required for Type = Manufacturing Skill, if the skill has a Data Type = Integer or Decimal. The value entered in this field defines the highest value of the value range. The resources searched for must have entered this value or a lower value in the corresponding Manufacturing Skill. |
To determine which skills are required or at least desirable to perform an operation, the skill sets are created in the routing lines or in the appropriate production structure lines. Skill Sets can be stored on lines of Type = Work Center or Machine Center. However, no skill sets can be specified in the operations of tools or inserts.
When a production order is calculated, the skill sets are transferred to the production order routing in addition to the known information about the operations.
