Sub-Checklists
Sub-checklists are checklist templates that can be used, for example, when a special option in a checklist must be described more clearly, or separately due to the complexity of the checklist. The checklist is structured better and is more concise by the use of sub-checklists.
Two types of sub-checklists can be used:
- Simple sub-checklist
- Automatic sub-checklist
Simple sub-checklists
With the simple sub-checklist, the Sub-Checklist Template Code field is filled in and the Input Type field is set <> Integer.
When a checklist that is defined with a simple sub-checklist is opened (for example on a sales order), the sub-checklist is directly added, as indicated in the Sub-Checklist Exists field on the line. The sub-checklist can be opened from the Lines FastTab by choosing Line > Sub-Checklist or by turning on the Show Sub-Checklists toggle on the General FastTab to display the sub-checklists directly in the lines.
Further information is then entered in the Input field of the Sub-Checklist lines.
Example
In the following video, a checklist template is set up with a simple checklist to define dimensions of an item. The sub-checklist is defined on an answer line and the formula for calculating the cubic meters is defined in the last line. The sub-checklist is opened to show the set up of the length, width, and height dimensions with variables.
The main checklist template is assigned to the item and then the document checklist is opened from a sales order line to show processing.
In the document checklist, the sub-checklist is opened from the "Enter Dimensions" line by choosing Line > Sub-Checklist on the Lines FastTab. The Sub-Checklist page opens and the dimensions are entered in the Input field.
Based on the set up of the main checklist, the values are calculated by choosing the Recalculate action to get the cubic meters for the item, which is added to the result line.
To show the sub-checklist directly in the document checklist lines, the Show Sub-Checklists toggle is turned on in the General FastTab. These values can be changed (or in the Sub-Checklist page) if necessary and the values can be recalculated.
Automatic sub-checklists
Automatic sub-checklists are used if several of the same assembly groups have different configurations that need to be defined. Automatic sub-checklists can be used instead of setting up numerous checklists with specific variables for each possible configuration.
Automatic sub-checklists are set up in the Checklist Template by filling in the Sub-Checklist Template Code field and setting the Input Type field to Integer.
In the Checklist Templates for the sub-checklists, an internal counting variable "i" is available. To mark these, the syntax "#i#" is entered at the end of the description. When opening the sub-checklist by this syntax, the variable "i" is replaced with its contents.
This checklist line is transferred first to the main checklist, without producing a sub-checklist. If a number between 1 and 99 is entered in the Input field on this line, then as many copies as are entered will be added. In the description, a counter is added (01, 02, 03 and so on).
In each of these lines, a sub-checklist is inserted, which can be opened from the main checklist by choosing Line > Sub-Checklist on the Lines FastTab.
If in the sub-checklist, the Variable for Dynamic BOM field is filled in (for example, with the variable "Width"), then this is replaced automatically with "Width01", "Width02", "Width03", and so on. If attribute texts were entered for the "Width" variable, they are then copied for the new variables. When the checklists are generated, the substitute symbol #i# is replaced by the description counter.
Note
The system limits the number of sub-checklists to 99.
Example
In the following video, the checklist template for the simple sub-checklist is extended with a new line for automatic sub-checklists with Input Type = Integer and a variable. The sub-checklist assigned to the line uses the "#i#" syntax as a placeholder for creating the automatic checklist structure.
The document checklist is opened from a sales order line to show processing.
In the document checklist, the number of sub-checklist to create is entered in the Input field on the last line, in this example 3 sub-checklists need to be created.
Three lines are added below the input line and the end of the Description field uses the syntax placeholder to add a counter to show checklist 01, 02, and 03. Now the Show Sub-Checklists toggle is turned on to show all the entries directly in the lines.
For each sub-checklist, the syntax "i" is replaced by its value, for example, Length 01, Width 01, and Height 01 for Sub-Checklist 01; Length 02, Width 02, and Height 02 for Sub-Checklist 02; and so on. The variables also contain the syntax placeholder 01, 01, 01 for Sub-Checklist 01 and 02, 02, 02 for Sub-Checklist 02, and so on.
Now you can enter the dimensions for each sub-checklist in the Input field as described for the simple sub-checklists.
Note
You could also choose Line > Sub-Checklists on the Lines FastTab for each line to enter the values in the Sub-Checklist page instead of adding the entries to the lines.
Retain input values of changed automatic sub-checklist quantity
If the input quantity is changed on the main sub-checklist line, a message opens asking what should happen to the existing sub-checklist lines.
Depending on whether the quantity is increased or decreased, the sub-checklist lines are updated as follows:
Input Change | Message Action | Result |
---|---|---|
Decrease | No | The last sub-checklist lines are removed and the remaining lines retain the original input. |
Decrease | Yes | The last sub-checklist lines are removed and the original input is deleted from the remaining lines. |
Increase | No | Additional sub-checklist lines are added with zero values and the remaining lines retain the original input. |
Increase | Yes | Additional sub-checklist lines are added with zero values and the original input is deleted from the remaining lines. |
