Image Capture Function
With the mobile application, you can send and store images in the database of Business Central. These images can be viewed, added, or removed both in the mobile application and in Business Central web client.
In both cases, images related to a specific record, are accessible in the Image Gallery. Images can be added to the gallery by:
- taking photos directly using the device's external or internal camera through the mobile application.
- selecting photos stored on the device.
- uploading photos directly to the Image Gallery via the web client of Business Central.
Important
The mobile application does not store images locally; all images are stored in either the database of Business Central or other storage (Azure, FTP etc) defined through subcription points. If there is no active network communication between the mobile application and Business Central, the Image Gallery cannot be accessed, and an error message will be displayed by the mobile application.
Business Central Settings
To view, capture, and assign images in the mobile application, you must first configure the settings in the Image Configuration section within the Global Page Customization page in COSMO Mobile Solution.
- In the mobile application, the Image Gallery is only accessible from Card view of pages if the Show Images on Card toggle is turned on.
- New images can only be added or deleted if the modification of the page is permitted for the user.
- Items marked as Favorites in the gallery can also be viewed in the list view of cards if the Show Images on List toggle is turned on.
- Images are stored in the MediaSet, associated with the specific page, which must be selected in the MediaSet Field for Images field before use, but there are other storage options as well.
Images in the Mobile Application
The Image Gallery in the mobile application can be accessed as follows (assuming the Show Images on Card toggle is turned on in the related Global Page Customization and a MediaSet is configured):
- Navigate to a record's Card view in the mobile application.
- Choose the image icon in the top-right corner to open the Image Gallery.
In this interface, you will find images associated with the current record, regardless of whether they were uploaded from the mobile application or the Business Central web client.
If modifications are permitted on the page, you can add images to the Image Gallery using the Capture an Image and Pick an Image buttons, either by taking a photo with the device's camera or selecting a photo stored on it. Images are synchronized with Business Central in batches when the input interface is closed, if there is an active communication link between the two.
Tapping on an image displays it in a larger view.
A long tap switches to selection mode, indicated by a gold highlight box, allowing you to select multiple images. The function bar provides options to delete images, select all, or deselect all.
You can designate a Favorite image, marked with a star icon. If only one image is present, it will be the Favorite.
- This image will appear in the List view of records.
- If you long tap on a non-Favorite image, you can set it as a Favorite using the Set as Favorite function.
Note
The described functions (capturing, adding, setting as Favorite, deleting images) can also be available in the web client of Business Central on the corresponding page: it is possible to create the Image Gallery in Business Central by development.
Signature Function
The mobile application allows for recording or viewing signatures within a page's Card view.
To set a field capable of handling signatures, open the Global Page Customization page, and on the Card View Fast, locate the field and set the Field Type to Signature. Ideally, this should be a dedicated field created for this purpose, rather than modifying an existing, unused field.
To allow for new signatures to be recorded, and existing ones to be modified, select the Editable checkbox on the line for the defined signature field. If the checkbox is not selected, the signature can only be viewed.
In the mobile application, the checkbox on the right side of the field in the Card view indicates whether a signature is stored in the field. Choosing the field bar opens the signature input and viewing interface, where – if the field is editable – you can save or clear the entered signature using the Save and Clear buttons.
The orientation of the input window adjusts to your device, provided rotation is enabled.
