BoQ Check
The BoQ structure must follow certain rules to be calculated, exported to a BoQ file, or used to create sales documents. The BoQ Check validates the structure of a project with Structure Type = Bill of Quantities, Placing Unit, or BoQ and PaC and reports any structural issues in one place, rather than letting them surface later in downstream processes.
Structural Validation Rules
The rules validated by the BoQ Check are described in the following table.
| Rule | Description |
|---|---|
| ON Mask level | A BoQ position must not be indented deeper than the number of levels allowed by the project's ON Mask. An index segment (/) in the ON Mask isn't counted as an additional level. |
| BoQ Position No. required | A BoQ Position No. is required for BoQ Position Type = BoQ Group, Normal, Optional, or Alternative. |
| Duplicate BoQ Position No. | The BoQ Position No. must not be used more than once for BoQ Position Type = BoQ Group, Normal, Optional, or Alternative. An exception is allowed by ÖNorm for a BoQ Group and its single direct child position to share the same BoQ Position No. |
| Rollup Type | Rollup Type must be blank if BoQ Position Type is not blank. |
| BoQ Price Type - Alternative | BoQ Price Type must not be Regular for BoQ Position Type = Alternative. |
| BoQ Price Type - Normal | BoQ Price Type must not be Without Total for BoQ Position Type = Normal, unless the line is Blocked. |
| BoQ position parent | A line with BoQ Position Type = BoQ Text, Normal, Optional, or Alternative must not be the parent of a BoQ Group or Alternative position. |
| COH Apportionment level | A line with COH Apportionment turned on must be on level 1 of the structure. |
Some of these rules are validated immediately as you edit the corresponding fields (for example, changing the BoQ Position Type, Rollup Type, BoQ Price Type, or COH Apportionment field, or moving/indenting a position), so invalid changes are rejected right away. A Construction Overhead apportionment line can only be moved to a level 1 target, and a General Component defined as a Construction Overhead apportionment component can only be inserted at level 1. All rules are validated together when the BoQ structure is checked, either automatically or manually.
BoQ Check FactBox
The BoQ Check FactBox is available on the BoQ Budget Calculation and BoQ Position List pages. It shows the total number of structural errors found for the current project and up to three of the error descriptions.
- Choose the Errors Total field to open the Error Messages page for the project.
- Choose an individual error line to open the related BoQ Position Card.
- Choose the Refresh action to run the check again for the current project.
Automatic BoQ Structure Checks
The BoQ Check field on the Project Card determines when the BoQ structure check runs automatically. The options are described in the following table.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| When opening the page | The check runs when the BoQ Budget Calculation or BoQ Position List page opens. This is the default setting. |
| When closing the page | The check runs when the BoQ Budget Calculation or BoQ Position List page closes. If errors are found, you're asked whether to open the error list; you can then choose to stay on the page and resolve the errors or continue closing. |
| When opening and closing the page | The check runs both when the page opens and when it closes. |
| Manual | The check only runs when triggered manually, either from the Check BoQ action or the Refresh action on the BoQ Check FactBox. |
A default value for the BoQ Check field can be set per project type in Project Types Setup; this value is transferred to the Project Card when a project is created with that type.
Manual BoQ Structure Check
To check the BoQ structure of the current project at any time, choose the Check BoQ action on the Actions menu of the BoQ Budget Calculation or BoQ Position List page. If errors are found, the Error Messages page opens listing all errors; choosing an error opens the related BoQ Position Card.
Check Before Creating or Updating Sales Documents or Exporting a BoQ
The BoQ structure is also checked when creating, updating, or expanding a Sales Quote or Sales Order from the BoQ Budget Calculation, BoQ Position List, or Fast Calculation page, and when exporting the project to a BoQ file (see Process a BoQ with Project Construction). If structural errors are found, an error message opens with a Show errors action that opens the Error Messages page; the sales document or BoQ file isn't created, updated, or exported until the errors are resolved.
