Upgrade cc|mobile solution to COSMO Mobile Solution

This topic provides an overview, guidelines, and considerations for upgrading from the cc|mobile solution product to COSMO Mobile Solution.

Mobile Solution Overview

COSMO Mobile Solution is a three-layer solution:

  • Business Central Extension: Contains basic setup for the application. Business Central licenses (Premium, Essentials, Device) are required for a COSMO Mobile Solution user to access the system.
  • Intermediate Layer: Acts as an entity through which the mobile application accesses the Business Central server. Can be hosted in on-premises or in SaaS (cloud) environments. COSMO CONSULT can host it at an additional cost.
  • Mobile Application: Runs on Android devices.

The new COSMO Mobile Solution represents a significant departure from the previous cc|mobile solution product, differing in several key areas, including:

  • Technology: Android-based mobile application with a three-layer architecture
  • Configuration: Configuration-based solution, replacing the previous development-based approach
  • Licensing
  • Process Creation

Due to these fundamental differences, no direct upgrade tool is available.

Instead, processes must be recreated in the new solution following an initial assessment. This document serves as a guide for sales teams, project managers, and consultants, ensuring they address the most critical factors during the evaluation phase.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements: Android 10.0, 2 GB RAM, 2 GB Free storage.
  • Recommended: Android 12 or above, 3-4 GB RAM, 2-3 GB Free storage.
  • Compatible with phones, tablets (including those connected to handheld scanners via USB or Bluetooth), and devices equipped with built-in barcode readers.

Scanning Features

  • Scanning can be done via the camera, built-in barcode scanner, or USB/Bluetooth-connected scanners.
  • If using a built-in barcode scanner, certain settings must be configured (intent barcode reading, barcode category and action). External handheld scanners require specific settings too.
  • COSMO CONSULT has experience with Zebra, Datalogic, Honeywell, Keyence, and Newland barcode reading devices and Zebra external barcode scanners. Specific settings could be provided for these devices.
  • When using OAuth authentication, devices need internet access to reach Microsoft services.

Licensing

COSMO License is required for a COSMO Mobile Solution user to access the system.

    • Components, Production Routings, Consumption Calculation, etc.

Customized Processes for Barcode Readers

  • Find items query: Real-time inventory information.
  • Item adjustment: Simplified adjustment based on item journal.
  • Simplified movement: Quick process for item movement between bins.
  • Physical inventory counting: Based on physical inventory orders and recordings.

Advanced Barcode Scanning

  • Support for complex barcodes (QR codes, barcodes containing multiple values such as Lot No., Qty., and Bin Code).

Printing Capabilities

Advanced printing capabilities with extensive configurability are available for the following printer types:

  • Local label printers (ZPL format supported)
  • Local report printers
  • Business Central printers for report printing

Custom Message Handling

  • Custom messages can be configured and displayed in the mobile application, with the option to trigger them based on specific conditions.

  • What kind of processes are the customer currently using in their cc|mobile solution product?
    • Should the new solution cover only Warehouse functionalities or Manufacturing processes as well?
    • What are the exact functionalities in use (e.g., Warehouse Receipt, Item Reclass. Journal, Warehouse Pick, etc.)?
    • What kind of labels do they use, and in which subprocess? (Examples required)
    • Do the labels contain single or multiple values?
    • What kind of item tracking is used and in which subprocess?
    • What printing functionalities are the customer using in their cc|mobile solution product?
      • Documents (report)

Technical Considerations

  • Is the environment on-premises or SaaS?
  • What is the authentication type of the users?
  • How many mobile users does the customer have?
  • What barcode reading devices are used (brand, type, Android version)?
  • What printers are used:
    • Local printers
    • Network printers used in Business Central
    • Is there a third-party printing solution installed?
  • Is a continuous internet connection available? (required)
